Origins of the outperformance of venture backed initial public offerings : a French study
2010
In this thesis, we analyze the contractual relationship between private equity investors and entrepreneurs/managers of small and medium sized firms. More specifically, we focus on the real contribution of these financial intermediaries to the Initial Public Offering (IPO) performance of financed firms. While considering venture capitalists’ involvement in the governance of financed firms as the main explaining factor, we use the Corporate Governance theory as the relevant theoretical framework. Thus, we firstly point out the agency theory perspective and secondly the resource and knowledge based view perspective to examine the determinants of venture capitalists’ involvement and the impact …
Survey sampling for functionnal data : building asymptotic confidence bands and considering auxiliary information
2011
When collections of functional data are too large to be exhaustively observed, survey sampling techniques provide an effective way to estimate global quantities such as the population mean function, without being obligated to store all the data. In this thesis, we propose a Horvitz–Thompson estimator of the mean trajectory, and with additional assumptions on the sampling design, we state a functional Central Limit Theorem and deduce asymptotic confidence bands. For a fixed sample size, we show that stratified sampling can greatly improve the estimation compared to simple random sampling. In addition, we extend Neyman’s rule of optimal allocation to the functional context. Taking into accoun…
El ritmo de la sociabilidad festiva en las rallas de Valencia
2018
This paper is concemed with the experience of time in the Festival of the Fallas of Valencia. It attributes a central role to the concept of festive sociability. The first section summarises basic concepts. A second part describes the Festival. The third section deals with the community's collective memory and its cyclic sense of history. The fourth describes the annual cycle of the permanent festive sociability of the Falla. A fifth section is concemed with the intensification of the rhythm of festive sociability during the Festive Event; it produces a reorganisation of time and space which go along with other relevant changes at the personal and community levéis. The participants have an …
Contribution and limitation of infrared spectroscopy technique to understand physisorption processes on MFI zeolites
2011
This manuscript is devoted to the study of adsorption processes by FTIR spectroscopy. The experimental results concern the adsorption of ethylene, trichloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene, sulfur hexafluoride or p-xylene on MFI zeolites, more especially on silicalite-1. The first step of the work was to develop a new experimental device and procedure in order to obtain reliable absorption infrared data and to improve results previously obtained by a prototype. The first main result is to characterize, maybe for the first time, the evolution of the spectrum of the adsorbent all during the adsorption process. Experiments reveal that the zeolite infrared spectrum undergoes strong modifications w…
Advanced Virgo Status
2015
Abstract The detection of a gravitational wave signal in September 2015 by LIGO interferometers, announced jointly by LIGO collaboration and Virgo collaboration in February 2016, opened a new era in Astrophysics and brought to the whole community a new way to look at - or “listen” to - the Universe. In this regard, the next big step was the joint observation with at least three detectors at the same time. This configuration provides a twofold benefit: it increases the signal-to-noise ratio of the events by means of triple coincidence and allows a narrower pinpointing of GW sources, and, in turn, the search for Electromagnetic counterparts to GW signals. Advanced Virgo (AdV) is the second ge…
The genus Scaphiostomum Braun, 1901 (Trematoda: Brachylaimidae): A systematic review and description of Scaphiostomum palaearcticum n. sp.
1986
A systematic review of the genus Scaphiostomum Braun, 1901 (Trematoda: Brachylaimidae) is presented. Its diagnosis is emended and its position within the subfamily Brachylaiminae Joyeux & Foley, 1930 is established. The subfamily Scaphiostominae Yamaguti, 1958 is considered a synonym of the Brachy-laiminae. Scaphiostomum comprises the following species: S. illatabile Braun, 1901 (type species) from birds in South America, S. pancreaticum McIntosh, 1934 and S. microti (Kruidenier & Gallicchio, 1959) n. comb., both from rodents in North America, and S. palaearcticum n. sp. from rodents in the Balearic Islands (Spain). Scaphiostomum sp. of Lim, 1967 from rodents in Malaysia probably constitute…
Shaping women's agency through temporality in "The life and activity of the holy and blessed teacher Syncletica"
2020
The present article attempts to discuss the relationship between two female characters, Thecla and Syncletica, against the wider theoretical background of temporality as it was perceived and construed through literary texts. Syncletica is portrayed as a ‘disciple’ of Thecla. However, while the apocryphal Acts of Paul and Thecla appear to be pervaded with an eschatological expectation, the Life of Saint Syncletica shows signs of a different temporality. The detailed description of the whole life of Syncletica, with an emphasis on the course of illness, reveals a temporality more focused on the stages of life. Building on this evidence, I aim to identify a set of key features that…

Attention to diversity in Madrilenian classrooms. Teachers’ opinions
2022
City marathons have evolved and grown exponentially in type and popularity, in their managerial complexity, and in terms of their financial impact on their host cities and the attraction of corporate sponsors. Most of the research on city marathons has focused on evaluating their broad economic, urban, tourist, social, sporting, and symbolic effects on host cities. However, less attention has been paid to analyzing key strategic decisions that could account for the evolution and growth of specific marathons and their influences on their management and success. This article, which addresses the cases of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon and the Marathon Valencia Trinidad Alfonso, examines…
Spatio-temporal Vegetation Recuperation after a Grassland Fire in Lithuania
2013
The aim of this work is to study the spatio-temporal effects of a grassland fire in Lithuania. Immediately after the fire, a experimental plot was designed in a east-faced slope. Vegetation cover and height were measured 10, 17, 31 and 46 days after the fire (vegetation cover was only measured until 31 days after the fire because in the last measurement campaign the plot was completely covered). The results showed that vegetation recovered very fast. Ten days after the fire vegetation cover and height distribution were heterogeneous, decreasing with the time due to vegetation spread. Vegetation recovered was specially observed between 17 and 31 days after the fire due vegetation recuperatio…
