Case Peurunka : the essence of wellbeing - customer perspective
2014
Changes in the contemporary population structures have created a number of new opportunities for the wellbeing tourism industry worldwide. In Finland, one of the wellbeing tourism destinations going through these changes is the Spa Hotel and Rehabilitation Foundation Peurunka. Originally built in 1974 for the rehabilitation of the Finnish war veterans, Peurunka is nowadays developing its health and physical activity services to attract more recreational wellbeing tourists alongside the rehabilitees. In addition to the change of the clientele and as a result of more stressful and hectic lifestyles, individuals are more willing to invest in their wellbeing. This generates great potential for …
Etäteknologiaa sisältävien liikunnallisten kuntoutusinterventioiden vaikuttavuus maksimaaliseen hapenottokykyyn : järjestelmällinen kirjallisuuskatsa…
2017
Kirjallisuushaku tehtiin (2000–…
Randomized Trial of General Strength and Conditioning versus Motor Control and Manual Therapy for Chronic Low Back Pain on Physical and Self-Report O…

Exercise and spinal manipulative therapy are commonly used for the treatment of chronic low back pain (CLBP) in Australia. Reduction in pain intensity is a common outcome
Effectiveness of a 12-month home-based exercise program on trunk muscle strength and spine function after lumbar spine fusion surgery:a randomized co…
2022
Purpose: The effectiveness of a 12-month home-exercise program on trunk muscle strength after lumbar spine fusion surgery was evaluated. Materials and methods: Three months postoperatively, 98 patients were randomized either to the exercise group (EG), with a progressive 12-month home-based exercise program, or to usual care group (UCG), with one guidance session for light home-exercises. Maximal trunk muscle strength was measured by a strain-gauge dynamometer and trunk extensor endurance was measured by Biering-Sørensen’s test at baseline and after the intervention. Results: The mean change in extension strength during the intervention was 75 N in EG and 58 N in UCG. Flexion strength impro…
Rhythmic exercises as tools for rehabilitation following cerebellar stroke: A case study integrating music therapy and physiotherapy techniques
2022
Introduction: This article explores the use of music and multisensory stimuli in the construction of compensatory neural networks for motoric functioning in a patient recovering from cerebellar strokes (CS). This study aimed to address the real-world clinical concern of patients having a passive role in therapy, by arousing the client’s interest and self-motivation in rehabilitation. Method: The article presents a case study of a CS survivor, using data derived from rehabilitation sessions combining music therapy techniques with physiotherapy techniques to improve the fluency and accuracy of his motor performance. Qualitative and quantitative data are used to identify, describe, and evaluat…

Impact or No Impact for Women With Mild Knee Osteoarthritis : A Bayesian Meta-Analysis of Two Randomized Controlled Trials With Contrasting Intervent…
2022
Objective: We aim to predict the probability of a benefit from two contrasting exercise programs for a woman with a new diagnosis of mild knee osteoarthritis (OA). The short and long-term effects of aquatic resistance training (ART) and high-impact aerobic land training (HLT) compared with the control will be estimated. Methods: Original data sets from two previously conducted randomised controlled trials (RCT) were combined and used in a Bayesian meta-analysis. Group differences in multiple response variables were estimated. Variables included cardiorespiratory fitness, dynamic maximum leg muscle power, maximal isometric knee extension and flexion force, pain, other symptoms and quality of…
