Ab initio simulations on AgCl(111) surface and AgCl(111)/α-Al2O3(0001) interface

The defect chemistry and ionic transport properties of the AgCl(111)/α-Al 2 O 3 (0001) interface were consid by using ab initio slab calculations. These calculations were performed in the framework of plane-wave basis combined with the density functional theory (DFT), as implemented into the VASP computer code, and Gaus basis set combined with the Hartree-Fock method (CRYSTAL-98 code). We analyze the electron density distribu on the interface and the electrostatic potential distribution near the AgCl surface. Non-Local Scattering Kernel and the Hydrodynamic Limit

In this paper we study the interaction of a fluid with a wall in the framework of the kinetic theory. We consider the possibility that the fluid molecules can penetrate the wall to be reflected by the inner layers of the wall. This results in a scattering kernel which is a non-local generalization of the classical Maxwell scattering kernel. The proposed scattering kernel satisfies a global mass conservation law and a generalized reciprocity relation. We study the hydrodynamic limit performing a Knudsen layer analysis, and derive a new class of (weakly) nonlocal boundary conditions to be imposed to the Navier-Stokes equations.

Vibro-acoustocal behavior of composite structures with damping elements

This work is on the subject of modelization of structures treated with passive damping elements. A generic "equivalent single layer" plate model using transverse shear warping functions is presented. Several methods to obtain these functions are described, allowing the implementation of classical models and others issued from the litterature. Two new methods for obtaining these functions are also presented.Several discretization methods adapted to the generic plate model are studied. Deletion of myosin VI causes slow retinal optic neuropathy and age-related macular degeneration (AMD)-relevant retinal phenotype

The unconventional myosin VI, a member of the actin-based motor protein family of myosins, is expressed in the retina. Its deletion was previously shown to reduce amplitudes of the a- and b-waves of the electroretinogram. Analyzing wild-type and myosin VI-deficient Snell’s Waltzer mice in more detail, the expression pattern of myosin VI in retinal pigment epithelium, outer limiting membrane, and outer plexiform layer could be linked with differential progressing ocular deficits. Stratospheric Aerosols After Pinatubo: Results from the 1991/2 Airborne Arctic Stratospheric Expedition (AASE II)

The Airborne Arctic Stratospheric Expedition II involved measurements of key quantities concerning the chemistry and physics of the stratospheric ozone loss from the NASA operated DC-8 and ER-2 platforms. The series of AASE II flights was conducted between August 22, 1991, until March 26, 1992, from Moffett Field (California), Fairbanks (Alaska), and Bangor (Maine). The timing and location of the AASE II flights permitted to obtain a large data basis pertaining to the effects of the Mt. Pinatubo volcanic plume spreading in the northern hemispheric stratosphere.
