A critical approach to the toxic metal ion removal by hazelnut and almond shells

The adsorption capacity of ground hazelnut (HS) and almond (AS) shells towards Pb(II) and Cd(II) has been studied at pH = 5, in NaNO3 and NaCl ionic media, in the ionic strength range 0.05-0.5 mol L-1. Kinetic and equilibrium experiments were carried out by using the Differential Pulse Anodic Stripping Voltammetry technique to check the amount of the metal ion removed by HS and AS materials. Different kinetic and equilibrium equations were used to fit experimental data and a statistical study was done to establish the suitable model for the data fitting. Recombination in Perovskite Solar Cells

Trap-assisted recombination, despite being lower as compared with traditional inorganic solar cells, is still the dominant recombination mechanism in perovskite solar cells (PSCs) and limits their efficiency. We investigate the attributes of the primary trap assisted recombination channels (grain boundaries and interfaces) and their correlation to defect ions in PSCs. We achieve this by using a validated device model to fit the simulations to the experimental data of efficient vacuum-deposited p-i-n and n-i-p CH3NH3PbI3 solar cells, including the light intensity dependence of the open circuit voltage and fill factor. Hydroquinone (HQ) is one of the major deleterious metabolites of benzene in the human body, which has been implicated to cause various human diseases. In order to fabricate a feasible sensor for the accurate detection of HQ, we attempted to electrochemically modify a piece of common 2B pencil lead (PL) with the conductive poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) or PEDOT film to construct a PEDOT/PL electrode. Growth and Characterization of Ordered PbO[sub 2] Nanowire Arrays

Large arrays of PbO 2 nanowires having high aspect ratios (length-to-width ratio) were grown by potentiostatic electrodeposition into anodic alumina templates under anodic polarization. Different electrolytic solutions were used in order to obtain nanowires of pure α-PbO 2 , pure β-PbO 2 , and a a + β mixture, We have found that, in a lead nitrate bath, a crystallographic structure of nanowires depends on pH; this latter was varied adding diluted nitric acid to the electrolyte. Nanowires of pure β-PbO 2 were obtained at pH 0.6, while mixed α-PbO 2 + β-PbΟ 2 nanowires were grown at pH 2. Pure α-phase was obtained in a bath containing lead acetate at pH 6.6. "One-touch" voltammetry of microparticles for the identification of corrosion products in archaeological lead

Voltammetry of microparticles is applied to the identification of lead corrosion products by means of an essentially non-invasive 'one-touch' technique based on the use of graphite pencil. This methodology permits the mechanical attachment of few nanograms of sample from the surface of lead archaeological artefacts to a paraffin-impregnated graphite electrode, which, upon immersion in aqueous electrolytes, provides distinctive voltammetric responses for litharge and cotunnite- anglesite-, cerusite-based corrosion products. Methodological Approach to Studying the dynamics of production networks: a Discrete Event Simulation Model

This paper shows how discrete-event simulation represents an appropriate tool for approaching the dynamics of production networks. Three important factors influencing production network dynamics, specifically finite production capacity, manufacturing lead time, and its variability are discussed and a basic discrete-event simulation model is presented. Such model, which in its basic form represents a simple retail/distribution two-stage supply chain, is then extended in order to take into account those factors that can not be included in a classical control theoretical model.
