Litorali dell'autofinzione: spigolature lacaniane

2017

This article aims to apply the theoretical tools of Lacanian psychoanalysis to the study of the self-fictional novel. On the one hand, it is a matter of …

The Reason of Imagination. The Blazing Worlds of Margaret Cavendish and Siri Hustvedt

2020

One of the peculiarities of 17th and 18th centuries literature is the link between knowledge and imagination, a relationship in which narration sometimes accompanies science, sometimes goes beyond it. The idea of imagination as a true means of knowledge is the subject of Margaret Cavendish’s best known work, The Blazing World (1666), where her alter ego is free to built a whole social and philosophical system based on corporality and subjectivity. From the same conception of imagination starts Siri Hustvedt when in 2014 rewrites The Blazing World: the story of an artist who still in the twentieth century tries to face the overwhelming misogyny with the performance of the body and the theory…

Melanconia e immaginazione. Una genealogia fantastica per Melencolia I

2007

What is the connection between philosophical enquiries and storytelling in contemporary narrative? Storiografie parallele. Cos'è la non-fiction?

2019

Bodies That Matter: Miniaturisation and the Origin(s) of ‘Art’

2020

Small things matter, especially in the so-called ‘arts’. From the visual arts to music and literature, ‘miniatures’ are a transcultural and transhistorical phenomenon that involves our aesthetic attitudes but also our everyday life, our emotional, social and cognitive life. Miniaturisation characterises our cognitive life and, of course, the ‘cognitive life of things’ that we produce, manipulate and discard. My paper is articulated into two sections: the first gives a quick overview of the miniatures of Homo sapiens, especially those of the paleolithic age, and a brief survey of the very challenging history of miniature-interpretation in twentieth-century philosophy of culture. In the secon…
