Common-path phase-shifting lensless holographic microscopy

2010

We present an approach capable of high-NA imaging in a lensless digital in-line holographic microscopy layout even outside the Gabor's regime. The method is based on spatial multiplexing at the sample plane, allowing a common-path interferometric architecture, where two interferometric beams are generated by a spatial light modulator (SLM) prior to illuminating the sample. The SLM allows phase-shifting interferometry by phase modulation of the SLM diffracted beam. After proper digital processing, the complex amplitude distribution of the diffracted object wavefront is recovered and numerically propagated to image the sample. Experimental results are reported that validate the proposed metho…

A method of evaluation of measured light intensities and degrees of polarization of a unit volume of turbid air

1965

In order to interpret scattered light measurements a comparison with theoretical values is necessary. It is demonstrated by means of an example the possibility to obtain a first view on the measurement results. From calculated values of various aerosol size distribution models as well as from measurements were computed: 1) the angular quotients of scattered light intensity (i.e., quotients of intensity at two scattering angles and the same wavelength) and 2) the wavelength quotients (i.e., quotients of intensity at two wavelengths and the same scattering angle). The comparison between measured and theoretical values informs us of the exponent of the aerosol size distribution and its boundar…

New Insight into the Cluster Structure of $^9$Be by Reactions with Deuteron Beam

2018

International audience; Angular distributions of protons, deuterons, tritons, and alpha particles emitted in the reaction 2H+9Be at Elab=19.5, 25, and 35 MeV were measured to study the structure of 9Be, especially to shed light on the internal clusters and possible cluster transfer of 5He. The experiments were performed at sufficiently high energies to ensure suppression of compound nucleus contribution. Thus, the direct reaction mechanism should be mainly responsible for the measured five-nucleon transfer cross section. The analysis suggests a significant contribution of simultaneous five-nucleon transfer in the reaction channel 9Be (d,4He) 7Li.

Three-dimensional level-curve scanning based on intersection of laser lines

2005

A dimensional measurement system that also tracks object movements is presented here. The method directly yields the level curves of an object. It is an extension of collimation methods, coupled with the use of structured lighting with features formed from several luminous planes intersecting in a single line. This line defines a set of points of the space at a fixed distance Z 0 from the measuring head. The locus of the points of the object where the lighting is reduced to a single line is the level curve sought. The introduction of an asymmetry into the lighting structure permits one to determine the direction as well as an approximate value of the value of the distance to the level curve…

Preliminary radiation hardness tests of single photon Si detectors

2010

Single photon Si detectors were fabricated by STMicroelectronics and fully characterized in standard operation conditions and after irradiations. Both single cells and arrays, of dimensions ranging from 5x5 up to 64x64, were electrically tested. The devices operation was studied as a function of the temperature from -25 degrees C to 65 degrees C varying the voltage over breakdown, from 5% up to 20% of the breakdown voltage before and after irradiation using both light ions, 10 MeV B ions to doses in the range 3x10(7)-5x10(10) cm(-2), and X-rays irradiations in the range 0.5-20 krad(Si). Optical characterization was performed using a laser at 659 nm and opportunely chosen filters to vary the…

The optical system of the A4 laser Compton polarimeter

2007

Compton backscattering polarimeters for experiments at sub-mA accelerator facilities use optical cavities to increase the laser light intensity. Therefore, parasitic properties of the optical elements have an increased influence on the polarization state of the light and need to be analyzed carefully. This contribution shows examples of such difficulties and the possible solutions, found during the setup of the A4 Compton backscattering polarimeter at the MAMI accelerator facility of the university of Mainz.

Designing an x-ray baffle for stray-light reduction at the focal plane of the Wide Field Imager on board EDGE

2008

We exploited a ray-tracing Montecarlo code to investigate the effects of stray-light on the performances of the Wide Field Imager (FoV = 1.5 deg) on board the EDGE satellite. We found non negligible stray-light contamination up to ~ 8 deg off-axis angles. We discuss the benefits of a baffle in order to reduce this contamination, that would strongly affect the telescope sensitivity, and present two possible baffle designs based on results of simulations.

Comparison and uncertainty evaluation of different calibration protocols and ionization chambers for low-energy surface brachytherapy dosimetry

2015

Purpose: A surface electronic brachytherapy (EBT) device is in fact an x-ray source collimated with specific applicators. Low-energy (<100 kVp) x-ray beam dosimetry faces several challenges that need to be addressed. A number of calibration protocols have been published for x-ray beam dosimetry. The media in which measurements are performed are the fundamental difference between them. The aim of this study was to evaluate the surface dose rate of a low-energy x-ray source with small field applicators using different calibration standards and different small-volume ionization chambers, comparing the values and uncertainties of each methodology. Methods: The surface dose rate of the EBT unit …
