Effect of framework type on survival probability of implant-supported temporary crowns : an in vitro study

Improvement in the performance of low temperature H2-O2 fuel cell with chitosanephosphotungstic acid composite membranes

Abstract Free-standing chitosan/phosphotungstic acid polyelectrolyte membranes, prepared by ionotropic gelation on alumina porous supports, were employed as proton conductor in low temperature H 2 –O 2 fuel cell. A drying step on glass substrate was introduced in the fabrication procedure to reduce shrinkage and consequent corrugation. Membranes were tested with electrodes prepared according to different procedures and with two different Pt loadings, namely 0.5 and 1 mg cm −2 . Both the investigated kinds of electrodes allowed to get very promising power peaks of 550 mW cm −2 in spite of the different Pt content. A comparative study of fatigue behaviour of flax/epoxy and glass/epoxy composites

Experimental investigations on flax and glass fabrics reinforced epoxy specimens, i.e. FFRE and GFRE, submitted to fatigue tests are presented in this paper. Samples having [0/90]3S and [±45]3S stacking sequences, with similar fibre volume fractions have been tested under tension–tension fatigue loading. The specific stress-number of cycles to failure (S–N) curves, show that for the [0/90]3S specimens, FFRE have lower fatigue endurance than GFRE, but the [±45]3S FFRE specimens offer better specific fatigue endurance than similar GFRE, in the studied life range (<2 × 10^6). Static and dynamic elasticity of some thermotropic liquid-crystalline copolyesters

Two series of thermotropic liquid crystalline copolyesters were studied in static and dynamic tensile deformation. Static loading generally does not lead to any peculiar phenomena: the stress-strain diagrams are linear or convex, except one copolyester fibre, the stress-strain diagram of which is concave at high temperatures. On the contrary, in dynamic loading the elasticity modulus increased during deformation for all the samples investigated. So it can be assumed that formation of a more rigid and stable structure takes place due to the dynamic deformation.

Model of delamination propagation in brittle-matrix composites under cyclic loading

A model of interlaminar fatigue crack growth based on damage accumulation ahead of the crack is proposed. Linear cumulative assumption is used for damage estimation, and a quadratic failure criterion is applied for complex interlaminar loading. Model parameters are determined from mode I and mode II fatigue tests, and used to predict mixed-mode delamination propagation rate. Comparison of theoretical prediction with mixed-mode test results for different brittle graphite FRP at several mode- and load ratios show reasonable agreement.

General stress-strain model for concrete or masonry response under uniaxial cyclic compression

The paper proposes analytical forms able to represent with very good approximation the constitutive law experimentally deducible by means of uniaxial cyclic compressive tests on material having softening post-peak behaviour in compression and negligible tensile strength. The envelope, unloading and reloading curves characterizing the proposed model adequately approach structural responses corresponding to different levels of nonlinearity and ductility, requiring a not very high number of parameters to be calibrated experimentally. A new approach for the evaluation of the shakedown limit load multiplier for structures subjected to a combination of quasi-statically variable loads and seismic actions is presented. The common case of frame structures constituted by elastic perfectly plastic material is considered. A bilateral convergent bounding technique for plastic deformations

For the class of elastic perfectly plastic discrete structures, subjected to a dynamic loading history, a bilateral bounding technique for plastic deformations has been studied. The computation of the bound is founded on the concept that to obtain it, any history of fictitious plastic deformations can be used, if only admissible.
