Die Bedeutung von Magnesium für Insulinresistenz, metabolisches Syndrom und Diabetes mellitus - Empfehlungen der Gesellschaft für Magnesium-Forschung…

2014

Calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium and iron content of infant formulas and estimated daily intakes

1996

The calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium and iron content of a total of 22 different infant formulas marketed in Spain were measured by atomic spectrometry, and the mineral intake of infants fed exclusively with these formulas was estimated. The contents (mg/100kJ) are in the following ranges: Ca, 14-24; Mg, 1.1-2.8; Na, 5.6-9.8; K, 19-35; Fe, 0.02-0.50. These values coincide with those recommended by the Codex and European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition (ESPGAN), and do not exceed the limits established by the European Union (EU). The mean values and ranges of estimated intakes for each formula type and period of infancy (0-1, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 and 4-5 months) expressed…

(Table 1) Trace element/Ca ratios of Orbulina universa shells from late Neogene Mediterranean samples

2008

A Mediterranean composite sedimentary record was analyzed for Ba/Ca ratios on carbonate shells of Orbulina universa planktonic foraminifer (Ba/Ca)carb providing the opportunity to study and assess the extent of freshwater inputs on the basin and possible impacts on its dynamics during the Tortonian to Recent period. A number of scanning electron microscope analyses and auxiliary trace element measurements (Mn, Sr, and Mg), obtained from the same samples, exclude important diagenetic effects on the studied biogenic carbonates and corroborate the reliability of (Ba/Ca)carb ratios in foraminifera calcite as indicators of seawater source components during the studied interval. A long-term trend…

Dietary magnesium intake and fracture risk: data from a large prospective study

2017

AbstractResearch considering the relationship between dietary Mg and osteoporosis as well as fractures are sparse and conflicting. We therefore aimed to investigate Mg intake and the onset of fractures in a large cohort of American men and women involved in the Osteoarthritis Initiative over a follow-up period of 8 years. Dietary Mg intake (including that derived from supplementation) was evaluated through a FFQ at baseline and categorised using sex-specific quintiles (Q); osteoporotic fractures were evaluated through self-reported history. Overall, 3765 participants (1577 men; 2071 women) with a mean age of 60·6 (sd9·1) years were included. During follow-up, 560 individuals (198 men and 36…

Long-term moderate magnesium-deficient diet shows relationships between blood pressure, inflammation and oxidant stress defense in aging rats

2006

International audience; Epidemiological and experimental studies have indicated a relationship among aging, dietary Mg, inflammatory stress, and cardiovascular disease. Our aim in the present study was to investigate possible links between dietary Mg, oxidant stress parameters, and inflammatory status with aging in rats. We designed a long-term study in which rats were fed for 22 months with moderately deficient (150 mg/kg), standard (800 mg/kg), or supplemented (3200 mg/kg) Mg diets. Comparisons were made with young rats fed with the same diets for 1 month. Compared to the standard and supplemented diets, the Mg-deficient diet significantly increased blood pressure, plasma interleukin-6, f…

Serum ionized magnesium levels in relation to metabolic syndrome in type 2 diabetic patients

2006

Objective: To evaluate circulating serum ionized magnesium (i-Mg) concentrations in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and to investigate its relationship with the components of the metabolic syndrome. Design: cross-sectional study. Setting: Outpatients' service for diabetic patients at the University Hospital of Messina, Italy. Subjects: 290 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Measures of Outcome: Serum i-Mg was measured by ion selective electrode. Age, gender, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, blood pressure, fasting glucose, HbA1c, HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and urinary albumin excretion rate (UAER) were considered in the analyses. Patients with hypomagnesemia, de…

Altered ionized magnesium levels in mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease.

2011

Abstract. Magnesium deficiency is present in several chronic, age-related diseases, including cardiovascular, metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia. The aim of the present study was to study magnesium homeostasis in patients with mild to moderate AD. One hundred and one elderly (≥65 years) patients were consecutively recruited (mean age: 73.4±0.8 years; M/F: 42/59). In all patients, a comprehensive geriatric assessment was performed including cognitive and functional status. Admission criteria for the AD group (diagnosed according to the DSM-IV and the NINCDS-ADRDA criteria) included: mild to moderate cognitive impairment (MM…

Dielectric properties of PMN+2%Li 2 O at low frequencies

2012

The reported study is focused on effects of the admixture of lithium (2% Li2O) on the low-frequency dielectric response in lead magnesium niobate ceramics over the 100 -300 K range of temperature. The obtained results reveal an essential thermal broadening of the e′(ν) spectra specific to relaxor ferroelectrics. Dispersion Δe′ = e′1Hz-e′1kHz and values of e′′(ν) in lead magnesium niobate ceramics containing Li are well described by the Cole-Cole equation at temperatures below the e′(T) maximum. Based on the analysis of the experimental data admixture of lithium is suggested to promote formation of domains in lead magnesium niobate ceramics (© 2012 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Frequency dependence of the microwave surface resistance of MgB2 by coaxial cavity resonator

2014

Abstract We report on the microwave (mw) properties of a cylindrical MgB2 rod prepared by the reactive liquid Mg infiltration technology. The MgB2 rod, 94.3 mm long, is used as inner conductor of a coaxial cavity having a Cu tube as external conductor. By analyzing the resonance curves of the cavity in the different resonant modes and at different temperatures, we have determined the temperature dependence of the mw surface resistance, R s , of the MgB2 material, at fixed frequencies, and the frequency dependence of R s , at fixed temperatures. Our results show that the R s ( f ) curves follow a f n law, where n decreases on increasing the temperature, starting from n ≈ 2 , at T = 4.2 K , d…
