Creating Implicit Measure Stimulus Sets Using a Multi-Step Piloting Method
2023
The effect of arbitrary stimulus selection is a persistent concern when employing implicit measures. The current study tests a data-driven multi-step procedure to create stimulus items using a combination of free-recall and survey data. Six sets of stimulus items were created, representing healthy food and high sugar items in children, adolescents, and adults. Selected items were highly representative of the target concepts, in frequent use, and of near equal length. Tests of the piloted items in two samples showed slightly higher implicit measure–behavior relations compared to a previously used measure, providing preliminary support for the value in empirically based stimulus selection. Author Correction: Evaluation of three methods for biomass estimation in small invertebrates, using three large disparate parasite species as model o…
2018
Invertebrate biomass is considered one of the main factors driving processes in ecosystems. It can be measured directly, primarily by weighing individuals, but more often indirect estimators are used. We developed two indirect and non-destructive approaches to estimate biomass of small invertebrates in a simple manner. The first one was based on clay modelling and the second one was based on image analysis implemented with open-source software. Furthermore, we tested the accuracy of the widely used geometric approximation method (third method). We applied these three different methods to three morphologically disparate model species, an acanthocephalan worm, a crustacean and a flatworm. To …
Obesity and survival in operable breast cancer patients treated with adjuvant anthracyclines and taxanes according to pathological subtypes: a pooled…
2013
Obesity is an unfavorable prognostic factor in breast cancer (BC) patients regardless of menopausal status and treatment received. However, the association between obesity and survival outcome by pathological subtype requires further clarification. METHODS: We performed a retrospective analysis including 5,683 operable BC patients enrolled in four randomized clinical trials (GEICAM/9906, GEICAM/9805, GEICAM/2003-02, and BCIRG 001) evaluating anthracyclines and taxanes as adjuvant treatments. Our primary aim was to assess the prognostic effect of body mass index (BMI) on disease recurrence, breast cancer mortality (BCM), and overall mortality (OM). A secondary aim was to detect differences o…
The System of Precautionary Rules For Ensuring Public Safety During a Pandemic in Japan: The Example of COVID-19
2021

Uniform rectifiability and ε-approximability of harmonic functions in Lp
2020
Suppose that E⊂Rn+1 is a uniformly rectifiable set of codimension 1. We show that every harmonic function is ε-approximable in Lp(Ω) for every p∈(1,∞), where Ω:=Rn+1∖E. Together with results of many authors this shows that pointwise, L∞ and Lp type ε-approximability properties of harmonic functions are all equivalent and they characterize uniform rectifiability for codimension 1 Ahlfors–David regular sets. Our results and techniques are generalizations of recent works of T. Hytönen and A. Rosén and the first author, J. M. Martell and S. Mayboroda. peerReviewed
