Monitoring Commercial Starter Culture Development in Presence of Red Grape Pomace Powder to Produce Polyphenol-Enriched Fresh Ovine Cheeses at Indust…

2021

Red grape Nero d’Avola cultivar grape pomace powder (GPP) was applied during fresh ovine cheese production in order to increase polyphenol content. Before cheeses were produced, the bacteria of a freeze-dried commercial starter culture were isolated and tested in vitro against GPP. Two dominant strains, both resistant to GPP, were identified. Thestarter culture was inoculated in pasteurized ewe’s milk and the curd was divided into two bulks, one added with 1% (w/w) GPP and another one GPP-free. GPP did not influence the starter culture development, since lactic acid bacteria (LAB) counts were 109 CFU/g in both cheeses at 30 d. To exclude the interference of indigenous LAB, the pasteurized m…

A parasitoloxia e a doutrina do contáxio animado: a helmintiase e a sarna na España do século XIX

1990

Fresh-Cut Mangoes: How to Increase Shelf Life by Using Neem Oil Edible Coating

2022

The mango is the most widely cultivated tropical fruit. Fresh-cut mango is very useful, but it is very perishable. The purpose of this study was to highlight the effects of neem oil on fresh-cut mango fruits kept for 9 days at 4 ± 1 °C and 80 ± 5% relative humidity. The neem plant (Azadirachta indica) has numerous antioxidant and antibacterial properties. Despite this, very few studies have been carried out on neem oil added to edible coatings (EC) to retard ripening processes. Two formulations were tested: EC1 (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose + CaCl2) and EC2 (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose + CaCl2 + neem oil), both compared with an untreated sample (control). Survey of antibiotic resistance of Pseudomonas isolated from fresh cut red chicory (Cichorium intybus L., Asteraceae)

2018

The present work was carried out to investigate the safety aspects of minimally processed red chicory (Cichorium intybus L., family Asteraceae) regarding the antibiotic resistance of Pseudomonas Migula, 1894 populations (Bacteria Pseudomonadaceae). The Pseudomonas strains tested for their characteristics were previously isolated from experimental monovarietal salads prepared with two different processes, a classic ready-to-eat (RTE) process and a process with entire leaves, and stored under refrigeration (4 °C) up to 15 days from production. Due to their dominance over the microbial community, Pseudomonas strains were better characterised for their undesirable features that might be exerted…

Regulation of the biosynthesis of the glycopeptide antibiotic A40926 in Nonomuraea ATCC39727

2011

The actinomycete Nonomuraea produces the glycopeptide A40926, precursor of dalbavancin. Dalbavancin is a novel lipoglycopeptide agent against emerging resistant Gram-positive cocci with superior pharmacodynamics properties compared to vancomycin. Chemically, a glycopeptide antibiotic consists of a heptapeptide core constituted by proteinogenic and nonproteinogenic amino acids such as 3,5-dihydroxyphenylglycine (DPG) and 4-hydroxyphenylglycine (HPG). The heptapeptide is assembled by a nonribosomal peptide synthetase and modified by oxidative cross-linking of the electron-rich aromatic side chains, halogenation, sulfation, methylation, acylation, and glycosylation. The A40926 biosynthetic gen…

Clinical Onset and Multiple Sclerosis Relapse after SARS-CoV-2 Infection

2021

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has been associated with several neurological disorders including headache, facial palsy, encephalitis, stroke, demyelinating disorders. The present report will discuss cases of multiple sclerosis (MS) onset and relapse both beginning early after SARS-CoV-2 infection. In both cases, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed widespread bilateral subcortical and periventricular active lesions. Serum IgG against SARS-CoV-2 Spike antigens confirmed seroconversion with titers that are considered not definitely protective against possible reinfection. We hypothesize that SARS-CoV-2 infection, as previously reported for other vir…
