Three-dimensional solvation structure of ethanol on carbonate minerals

2020

Calcite and magnesite are important mineral constituents of the earth’s crust. In aqueous environments, these carbonates typically expose their most stable cleavage plane, the (10.4) surface. It is known that these surfaces interact with a large variety of organic molecules, which can result in surface restructuring. This process is decisive for the formation of biominerals. With the development of 3D atomic force microscopy (AFM) it is now possible to image solid–liquid interfaces with unprecedented molecular resolution. However, the majority of 3D AFM studies have been focused on the arrangement of water at carbonate surfaces. Here, we present an analysis of the assembly of ethanol – an o…

ANALISI ARCHEOMETRICHE SU CERAMICHE DA FUOCO TARDOANTICHE DA DYRRACHION (ALBANIA): NUOVI DATI.

2010

This work, together with a paper previously published on LRCW2, allows a first classification of the ceramic manufactures wellmatched with the geolithological characteristics of the district of Durrës (Albania). In the earlier phase of the research archaeological and archaeometric studies were carried out on selected samples representative of cooking ware forms brought to light in late roman layers of abandonment of a thermal complex located in Dyrrachion (Durrës) and dated back to the end of the 1st and the beginning of the 2nd century AD. The polarizing microscope observation of thin sections permitted the petrographic classification of 10 selected samples into 5 ceramic pastes, which wer…

Komerciālā dabīgā minerālūdens mikrobioloģiskais raksturojums

2018

Study of the effects of salt crystallisation on degradation of limestone rocks

2013

Salt crystallization is widely recognized as a cause of deterioration of porous building materials. In particular, the crystallization pressure of salt crystals growing in confined pores is found to be the main cause for damage. The aim of this study is to better understand the degradation of porous rocks induced by salt crystallisation and correlate such processes with the intrinsic characteristics of materials. With this intend, an experimental salt weathering simulation has been carried out on two limestones widely used in the Baroque architecture of eastern Sicily. A systematic approach including petrographic, porosimetric and colorimetric analyses, was used to evaluate the correlation …

Aerosol optical properties and instantaneous radiative forcing based on high temporospatial resolution CARSNET ground-based measurements over eastern…

2017

Abstract. Variations in the optical properties of aerosols and their radiative forcing were investigated based on long-term synchronous observations made at three-minute intervals from 2011 to 2015 over seven adjacent CARSNET (China Aerosol Remote Sensing NETwork) urban (Hangzhou), suburban (Xiaoshan, Fuyang, LinAn, Tonglu, Jiande) and rural (ChunAn) stations in the Yangtze River Delta region, eastern China. The aerosol optical depth (AOD) varied from 0.68 to 0.76, with two peaks in June and September, and decreased from the eastern coast to western inland areas. The ratio of the AOD of fine-mode particles to the total AOD was > 0.90 and the extinction Angström exponent was > 1.20 thr…

Building materials and decay assessment of the Gerace Cathedral (Reggio Calabria, Southern Italy)

2023

A multi-analytical approach was employed for the first time to study the stone materials, wall paintings and related degradation forms in the Cathedral of Gerace (Reggio Calabria, southern Italy). With an area of around 1898 square meters, the Gerace Cathedral is the largest in Calabria: its construction dates back to the Norman era (between 1085 and 1120), and currently displays distinct features of Greek and Latin architectural orders. Despite having undergone numerous restorations, the church perfectly preserves its original buildings materials. Following an extensive site inspection campaign, supported by the experts dealing with building restoration, several areas were selected for ana…

REATTORE E PROCEDIMENTO PER EFFETTUARE REAZIONI SELETTIVE

2015
