15 Minute City Concept. A Glance at the Palermo Case Study

2022

Giving people opportunities for green technology and offering them new transportation modes are not sufficient methods for the transition to a sustainable mobility model. With the increasing importance of time, minimizing the daily travel time of people seems to be one of the crucial steps to be taken. 15 Minute City is one of the latest popular concepts assuring to reduce daily travel time and improve quality of life while enhancing environmental conditions. This paper will have a look at the concept regarding the case study of Palermo, one of the cities with the most intense traffic problems in Europe.

The inefficient aerobic energetics ofZymomonas mobilis: Identifying the bottleneck

2014

To investigate the mechanisms of Zymomonas mobilis uncoupled aerobic metabolism, growth properties of the wild-type strain Zm6 were compared to those of its respiratory mutants cytB and cydB, and the effects of the ATPase inhibitor DCCD on growth and intracellular ATP concentration were studied. The effects of the ATPase inhibitor DCCD on growth and intracellular ATP concentration strongly indicated that the apparent lack of oxidative phosphorylation in aerobically growing Z. mobilis culture might be caused by the ATP hydrolyzing activity of the H(+) -dependent ATPase in all analyzed strains. Aerobic growth yields of the mutants, and their capacity of oxidative ATP synthesis with ethanol we…

Audiovisual time-to-collision estimation for accelerating vehicles: The acoustic signature of electric vehicles impairs pedestrians' judgments

2022

To avoid collisions, pedestrians intending to cross a road need to accurately estimate the time-to-collision (TTC) of an approaching vehicle. For TTC estimation, auditory information can be considered particularly relevant when the approaching vehicle accelerates. The sound of vehicles with internal combustion engine (ICEVs) provides characteristic auditory information about the acceleration state (increasing speed and engine load). However, for electric vehicles (EVs), the acoustic signature during acceleration is less salient. Although the auditory detection of EVs has been studied extensively, there is no research on potential effects of the altered acoustic signature of EVs on TTC estim…

Cultural and Landscapes Heritages: Mobility, Fruition and Accessibility for all

2021

At such a delicate historical moment, in which the pandemic health emergency has reduced the mobility of citizens, a new resilient culture is affirming its capacity to encourage and guarantee the use of cultural and landscape assets for all. This study analyzes some international and national experiences that have already been implemented, or are at an advanced planning stage, which point to a new way of understanding the accessibility of places by users with specific needs and permits their visitation which was previously impossible. Our discussion will deal with Agrigento in particular: the city itself, the Valley of the Temples, its historical center and all the naturalistic treasures of…

Investigation of the Electrophoretic Mobility of the Actinides Th, U, Np, Pu, and Am in Different Oxidation States.

2019

The electrophoretic mobilities (μe) of the actinides Th and U-Am in different oxidation states (prepared in 1 M HCl and 1 M HClO4) have been determined by capillary electrophoresis (CE)-inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICPMS) using 1 M acetic acid as the background electrolyte, which has proven to provide an excellent setup for trace analysis at environmentally relevant concentrations (1 × 10-9 M). The values are independent of the respective acid solution. The μe of the Pu oxidation states +III to +VI have been measured. They agree with both the available literature data and the redox-stable analogues (Eu(III), Th(IV), Np(V), U(VI)) that have also been investigated. The trend …

Sequential analysis of CD34+ and CD34− cell subsets in peripheral blood and leukapheresis products from breast cancer patients mobilized with SCF plu…

2001

Administration of stem cell factor (SCF) has been proven to enhance cytokine-induced mobilization of CD34+ hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPC) into the peripheral blood (PB). The aim of the present study was to explore in a homogeneous group of 22 uniformly treated breast cancer patients: (1) the kinetics of mobilization into PB of both CD34+ and CD34- cell subsets, including dendritic cells, in sequential samples obtained from day +7 up to day +12 after mobilization; and (2) the composition of the CD34+ and CD34- cell subsets present in the two leukapheresis products obtained for each patient. The following CD34+ and CD34- subsets were analyzed: early CD34+ HPC, erythroid-, myeloid- and B…

Mobilization of peripheral blood progenitor cells with a combination of cyclophosphamide, r-metHuSCF and filgrastim in patients with breast cancer pr…

2002

The objective of our study was to determine the effect of adding r-metHuSCF to Filgrastim and cyclophosphamide for mobilization of peripheral blood progenitor cells (PBPC), on collection of CD34(+) cells and engraftment after autologous stem cell transplant. Twenty-three patients with previously treated stage II-IV breast cancer received cyclophosphamide (3 g/m(2)), Filgrastim 5 microg/kg daily and r-metHuSCF 20 microg/kg daily. Two PBPC collections were performed on consecutive days starting the day the WBC count was above 7.5 x 10(3)/microl. Collection was performed between days +9 and +12 and the median number of CD34(+) cells collected was 9.9 x 10(6)/kg (1.1-53.1) and 6.6 x 10(6)/kg (1…

Plerixafor with and without chemotherapy in poor mobilizers: results from the German compassionate use program.

2010

The CXCR4-inhibitor plerixafor mobilizes hematopoietic stem cells amplifying the effects of granulocyte-CSF (G-CSF). Before approval plerixafor was used in a compassionate use program (CUP) for patients who failed a previous mobilization. In the German CUP 60 patients from 23 centers (median age 56.5 years (2-75)) were given 240 μg/kg plerixafor SC 9-11 h before apheresis. A total of 78.3% (47/60) received G-CSF for 4 days before plerixafor administration; 76.6% of those (36/47) yielded at least 2.0 × 10(6) CD34(+) cells/μL. The median cell yield was 3.35 × 10(6) CD34+ cells/kg (0-29.53). Nine patients received plerixafor alone or with G-CSF for less than 4 days mobilizing a median of 3.30 …
