Contribution to the investigation of dynamic responses of human tissues under high velocity impacts using finite element modeling

Thoracic injuries happen frequently in various frameworks of high velocity impact biomechanics. Rib fractures and lung injuries are the most common hard and soft tissue injuries in human thorax. This thesis aims to contribute to the investigation of dynamic responses of human tissues especially ribs and soft tissues under high velocity impacts using finite element modeling. Local aromaticity in polyacenes manifested by individual proton and carbon shieldings: DFT mapping of aromaticity

Exponential dependencies between locally calculated geometric and magnetic indexes of aromaticity, harmonic oscillator model of aromaticity (HOMA) and nucleus independent chemical shifts (NICS)(0), NICS(1) and NICS(1)zz, and the number of conjugated benzene rings in linear acenes, from benzene to decacene were observed at B3LYP/6-311+G** level of theory. Correlations between HOMA and NICS indexes showed exponential dependencies and were fitted with simple three-parameter function. 3He NMR studies on helium–pyrrole, helium–indole, and helium–carbazole systems: a new tool for following chemistry of heterocyclic compounds

The 3He nuclear magnetic shieldings were calculated for free helium atom and He–pyrrole, He–indole, and He–carbazole complexes. Several levels of theory, including Hartree–Fock (HF), Second-order Møller-Plesset Perturbation Theory (MP2), and Density Functional Theory (DFT) (VSXC, M062X, APFD, BHandHLYP, and mPW1PW91), combined with polarization-consistent pcS-2 and aug-pcS-2 basis sets were employed. The role of landscape, topography, and geodiversity in explaining vascular plant species richness in a fragmented landscape

We explained vascular plant species richness patterns in a 286 km(2) fragmented landscape with a notable human influence. The objective of this study was two-fold: to test the relative importance of landscape, topography and geodiversity measures, and to compare three different landscape-type variables in species richness modeling. Moreover, we tested if results differ when only native species are considered. In the sport context, an essential aspect of an athlete’s development and performance happens during the interaction with the coach while receiving information on the aspects of performance that need to be modified (corrective feedback). Biologically based models of cancer risk in radiation research

PURPOSE: In radiation risk analysis the state-of-the-art approach is based on descriptive models which link excess rates of cancer incidence and mortality to radiation exposure by statistical association. To estimate the number of sporadic and radiation-induced cases descriptive models apply parametric dose response function which directly determine the radiation risk. In biologically-based models of cancer risk (BBCR models) dose responses are implemented for key events on the biological level such as early mutations or clonal expansion of initiated cells. Low cost system for visualization and exhibition of pottery finds in archeological museums

The objective of this project is to build a low-cost system for surveying, modeling, prototyping and interactive visualizing aimed at the enhancement of islamic pottery finds of X – XI centuries. The system will allow various applications: the creation of systems for displaying artifacts from the museum alongside the exhibition, the virtual view of restorations from fragments, including AR and VR, the physical reconstruction of the original form using 3D printer to show the pieces in their entirety, as well as the construction of interactive virtual archives to be made available to scholars and visitors.

Asymptotic Analysis of a Slightly Rarefied Gas with Nonlocal Boundary Conditions

In this paper nonlocal boundary conditions for the Navier–Stokes equations are derived, starting from the Boltzmann equation in the limit for the Knudsen number being vanishingly small. In the same spirit of (Lombardo et al. in J. Stat. Phys. 130:69–82, 2008) where a nonlocal Poisson scattering kernel was introduced, a gaussian scattering kernel which models nonlocal interactions between the gas molecules and the wall boundary is proposed.
