Learning via Summarizing Infographics Assignment in Software Engineering Management e-Course?

This Research-to-Practice, Work in Progress Paper focuses on how learners experience creation of infographics as a summarizing assignment in an advanced level e-course on software engineering management (SEM). We have previously investigated how learners perceive infographics as a repeated reflection assignment during a requirements engineering e-course. A preliminary comparison between finite element and meshless simulations of extrusion

In this paper the extrusion process of a cross-shaped profile was investigated. In particular, the study was focused on the distortion of extruding profiles when the workpiece and die axis are not aligned. The process was simulated using the finite element method (FEM) and the natural element method (NEM), both implemented in an updated-Lagrangian formulation, in order to avoid the burden associated with the description of free surfaces in ALE or Eulerian formulations. Effect of customer heterogeneity on the relationship satisfaction–loyalty

Abstract The need to study the differences among consumers due to their behavioural heterogeneity and the highly competitive consumer markets is recognized. In this paper, we analyse the potential heterogeneous shopping assessment in retail and how that experience may influence on consequent customer loyalty in a different way. The effects of satisfaction on attitudinal and behavioural loyalty and positive word of mouth are estimated by a finite-mixture structural equation model, and unobserved heterogeneity is analysed simultaneously. The finite element implementation of 3D fractional viscoelastic constitutive models

Abstract The aim of this paper is to present the implementation of 3D fractional viscoelastic constitutive theory presented in Alotta et al., 2016 [1]. Fractional viscoelastic models exactly reproduce the time dependent behaviour of real viscoelastic materials which exhibit a long “fading memory”. From an implementation point of view, this feature implies storing the stress/strain history throughout the simulations which may require a large amount of memory. We propose here a number of strategies to effectively limit the memory required. Assessment of building energy modelling studies to meet the requirements of the new Energy Performance of Buildings Directive

Abstract The cost optimal method (COM) as applied in the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) uses “non-calibrated deterministic reference buildings (RBs)”. Such RBs are defined with single envelope and equipment parameter values, for which calibration with actual building stock energy performance (EP) is not undertaken. Thus, it is not possible to visualise the effect of uncertainties or diversity in the input parameters on cost-optimal level benchmarks and to verify the choice of RBs. Structural assessment of a reinforced concrete water tower

The paper presents a structural appraisal of a reinforced concrete water tower at the Public Abattoir in Malta. The water tower was constructed in the first half of the 20th century and consists in a reinforced concrete thin shell structure supported on twelve columns. Detailed drawings and a refined 3D model were prepared based on detailed site measurements of the structure. The concrete was assessed through non-destructive tests and with reference to extracted concrete core samples from different parts of the structure and extracted steel reinforcement samples.
