Aspects concerning the manifestation of the students’ emotional intelligence

2010

Abstract In this study, we were proposed to investigate aspects concerning the manifestation of the students’ emotional intelligence, namely the extent to which the adolescents possess a series of capacities proper to emotional intelligence. Wayne Leon Payne defines emotional intelligence as being the ability which implies a creative relation with states of anxiety, pain and desire. Emotion depends on the way a person analyzes and evaluates a certain situation. In order to determine the emotional intelligence quotient, it was used the Emotional Intelligence Test for adults, in the version adapted by M. Rocco from R. Bar-On and D. Goleman. The personality dimensions were determined using the…

Ancistrocyclinones A and B, unprecedented pentacyclic N,C-coupled naphthylisoquinoline alkaloids, from the Chinese liana Ancistrocladus tectorius

2018

Two unique pentacyclic N,C-coupled naphthylisoquinolines, the ancistrocyclinones A (5) and B (6), were discovered in the Chinese liana Ancistrocladus tectorius. Furthermore, six known, likewise N,C-coupled alkaloids, viz., ancistrocladinium A (7a) and its mono- and bisphenolic analogs 8a and 9a were isolated, along with their atropo-diastereomers 7b, 8b, and 9b. The stereostructures of 5 and 6 were determined by HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR, oxidative degradation, and ECD calculations. The pentacyclic ancistrocyclinones A (5) and B (6) are structurally similar to berberine alkaloids - yet arising from a most different biosynthetic pathway: they are apparently formed by N,C-coupling of their polyk…

Multi-year drought frequency analysis at multiple sites by operational hydrology - A comparison of methods

2006

Abstract This paper compares two generators of yearly water availabilities from sources located at multiple sites with regard to their ability to reproduce the characteristics of historical critical periods and to provide reliable results in terms of the return period of critical sequences of different length. The two models are a novel multi-site Markov mixture model explicitly accounting for drought occurrences and a multivariate ARMA. In the case of the multisite Markov mixture model parameter estimation is limited to a search in the parameter space guided by the value of parameter λ to show the sensitivity of the model to this parameter. Application to two of the longest time series of …

Progressive symmetric erythro-keratosis associated with oligodontia, severe caries, disturbed hair growth and ectopic nail: a new syndrome?

2008

A 7-year-old girl had well-demarcated erythematous plaques covered with white pityriasiform scales which were symmetrically distributed and involved the extensor surfaces of the extremities as well as the abdomen, buttocks and face. Histological examination showed marked hyperkeratosis with parakeratosis, and a thickened granular cell layer, mild acanthosis and slight lymphocytic infiltration surrounding the papillary blood vessels, compatible with a diagnosis of progressive symmetrical erythrokeratodermia. Remarkably, a keratotic excrescence similar to a normal nail plate involved the tip of the nose since the age of 6 months. Moreover, occipital hairlessness, oligodontia and severe caries…

Analysis of duplexing modes in the IEEE 802.16 wireless system

2010

The IEEE 802.16 standard defines two main duplexing modes: Time Division Duplexing (TDD) and Frequency Division Duplexing (FDD). The FDD can be divided further into Full-FDD (F-FDD) and Half-FDD (H-FDD). F-FDD requires full duplexing support from subscriber stations and works with two frequency bands. TDD operates a single frequency band, but it does not need full-duplexing support. H-FDD is a combination of these: it works with two frequency bands and does not require full-duplexing support. The cost of this is a more complicated scheduling and added overhead. Still, H-FDD might be the only possible duplexing mode in some occasions. In this paper, these duplexing modes are compared and the…

Structure and function of the vacuolar Ccc1/VIT1 family of iron transporters and its regulation in fungi

2020

Iron is an essential micronutrient for most living beings since it participates as a redox active cofactor in many biological processes including cellular respiration, lipid biosynthesis, DNA replication and repair, and ribosome biogenesis and recycling. However, when present in excess, iron can participate in Fenton reactions and generate reactive oxygen species that damage cells at the level of proteins, lipids and nucleic acids. Organisms have developed different molecular strategies to protect themselves against the harmful effects of high concentrations of iron. In the case of fungi and plants, detoxification mainly occurs by importing cytosolic iron into the vacuole through the Ccc1/V…

Super resolving optical system based on spectral dilation

2004

Time multiplexing is a common approach for achieving super resolution. The basic method involves moving two grating one is in front of the object and the other one in front of the camera. In this paper, we present a novel approach for obtaining super resolution not by shifting a grating, but by using its various dilations for obtaining the required encoding and decoding of information.

ESBL-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae in a University hospital: Molecular features, diffusion of epidemic clones and evaluation of cross-transmission.

2021

The worldwide spread of Klebsiella pneumoniae producing extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL-Kp) is a significant threat. Specifically, various pandemic clones of ESBL-Kp are involved in hospital outbreaks and caused serious infections. In that context, we assessed the phenotypic and molecular features of a collection of ESBL-Kp isolates in a French university hospital and evaluated the occurrence of potential cross-transmissions. Over a 2-year period (2017–2018), 204 non-duplicate isolates of ESBL-Kp were isolated from clinical (n = 118, 57.8%) or screening (n = 86, 42.2%) sample cultures. These isolates were predominantly resistant to cotrimoxazole (88.8%) and ofloxacin (82.8%) but remaine…

Circumventing deadlock through venue-shopping: Why there is more than just talk in US immigration politics in times of economic crisis

2016

This article addresses the question of how the financial and economic crisis that hit the US in the late 2000s impacted immigration policies. We find that the crisis has not significantly changed dynamics. Instead, it has highlighted and aggravated persisting trends. Drawing on Kingdon’s multiple streams model and combining it with the notion of two-level games, we find that while the policy stream and the problem stream would call for both restrictive and liberalising changes, the political stream impedes change: The fact that Congress has been divided for a long time over Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR) impedes any restrictive or liberalising changes. With problems resulting from c…
