Una nuova applicazione della Comparative Multiplex Dosage Analysis (CMDA)

2011

2005

Settore BIO/18 - Geneticainstead chromosomes of controls were almost uniformly decorated by brilliant grains. Studies on methylation of PTHrP gene promoter 2 performed on five CpG island internal sites using the Methylation-Sensitive Restriction Endonuclease Multiplex (MSREM)-PCR showed that one of the sites nearest the trascription starting point is heavy methylated in a significantly high number of RA patients. Thus RA seems to be characterized by genomewide hypomethylation associated with local hypermethylation like the most part of tumors. This result raises the possibility that susceptibility to lymphomas is related to abnormal DNA methylation levels and suggests the opportunity to evaluate the DNA methylation status in RA patientin fact the demethylating therapies together with diet and life style can act towards an increase of tumor risk. Future studies using a larger number of subjects could confirm these findings.Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic multisystem inflammatory disease characterized by high recurrence of lymphomas as well as hypercalcemia due to PTHrP overexpression. Because of DNA methylation plays a critical role in development of neoplasias we determined in RA patients the global DNA methylation status and local methylation pattern of the CpG island of one of the three promoters of PTHrP gene utilizing molecular and cytogenetic techniques. Investigations performed on DNA from peripheral blood of patients and donors amplified by Methylation-Sensitive Arbitrarily Primed (MeS-AP)-PCR indicated that RA is strongly associated with global DNA hypomethylation. Similarly chromosomal DNA methylation pattern analysis by indirect immunofluorescence technique with anti 5-methylcitosine antibody showed all peripheral lymphocyte metaphases from RA patients with chromosomes weakly fluorescent without discrete grain

Random access with repeated contentions for emerging wireless technologies

2017

In this paper we propose ReCo, a robust contention scheme for emerging wireless technologies, whose efficiency is not sensitive to the number of contending stations and to the settings of the contention parameters (such as the contention windows and retry limits). The idea is iterating a basic contention mechanism, devised to select a sub-set of stations among the contending ones, in consecutive elimination rounds, before performing a transmission attempt. Elimination rounds can be performed in the time or frequency domain, with different overheads, according to the physical capabilities of the nodes. Closed analytical formulas are given to dimension the number of contention rounds in order…

Blind source separation for OFDM with filtering colored noise out

2011

Two blind algorithms that are developed with the intention of improving the symbol detection of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) techniques are proposed in this paper. OFDM systems are easy to equalize in implementations. The schemes are based on the theories of blind source separation (BSS). They are among the premier mechanisms used for extracting unobserved signals from observed mixtures in signal processing. In this study noise component of the received signal mixture is tried to be filtered out. A scalar energy function with the iterative fixed point rule for receive signal is used in determining the filter coefficients while taking the time correlation properties of t…

Research and Implementation of Energy Dispersal Algorithm for DRM System

2020

The article investigates the randomization algorithm of the OFDM signal energy used in modern digital broadcasting systems. Transmission part of the DRM system was modeled in MATLAB/Simulink software environment, bit sequences allocation tests were conducted using the original information signal and the corresponding modulation symbols with a scrambling algorithm and without it.

Combined approach for the investigation of dominant fermenting microbiota in two traditional sourdoughs produced in sicily

2017

In order to explore the community of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and yeasts present in two major typical Sicilian sourdoughs, seven mature sourdoughs for "Pane Nero di Castelvetrano" (CV1 - CV3 samples) and "Pane di Monreale" (MR1 - MR4 samples) were analysed through a culturedependent and culture-independent approach. The highest values of microbial counts were revealed in MR1 sourdough. In particular, LAB counts were at about 109 CFU/g in media specific for typical sourdough LAB, such as SDB and SFM, while levels of 106 CFU/g were registered for yeasts. The total DNA form each sourdough sample was extracted and subjected to a multiplex-PCR in order to recognize the major groups of LAB. Sev…

A performance study of LTE MIMO-OFDM systems using the extended one-ring MIMO channel model

2012

In this paper, we consider a long-term evolution (LTE) system for the downlink by using multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) techniques. The downlink channel is modeled by the socalled extended MIMO one-ring model. This model extends the well-known narrowband one-ring model with respect to frequency selectivity. The symbol error rate (SER) performance of the LTE MIMO-OFDM system is investigated for the downlink by employing different kinds of spatial encoders, where it is assumed that the channel state information (CSI) is perfectly known. For comparison, the space-time block coding (STBC) scheme, the vertical Bell Laboratories layered spac…

Synthetic aperture superresolution with multiple off-axis holograms

2006

An optical setup to achieve superresolution in microscopy using holographic recording is presented. The technique is based on off-axis illumination of the object and a simple optical image processing stage after the imaging system for the interferometric recording process. The superresolution effect can be obtained either in one step by combining a spatial multiplexing process and an incoherent addition of different holograms or it can be implemented sequentially. Each hologram holds the information of each different frequency bandpass of the object spectrum. We have optically implemented the approach for a low-numerical-aperture commercial microscope objective. The system is simple and rob…

An Improved Receiver Architecture for Cyclic-Prefixed OFDM

2009

A novel Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing receiver architecture to be employed with standard (e.g. Wireless LAN) transmitters is proposed. It features enhanced error-rate performance with flexible computational complexity and robustness to imperfect channel estimation. It is based on exploitation of the redundancy available in the cyclic prefix after cancellation of interference from the previous block. In order to show the effectiveness of our proposal, a number of comparisons to the standard per-subcarrier receiver and a previously existing method are reported.
