Impact of the inclusion of hydrotalcite on the morphological and electrical characteristics of an epoxy-based CNT nanocomposite

The experimental results concerning the correlation between morphological and electrical characteristics of a MWCNT/epoxy based composites are presented. The impact of a nanoclay filler is investigated on the DC conductivity of a matrix loaded with different concentrations of MWCNT in order to evaluate the improvements on the dispersion of CNT inside the epoxy matrix. The dispersion is deemed to be very influencing on the electrical conductivity of the nanocomposite. A detailed morphological and structural characterization allows to interpret the electrical behaviour of the nanocomposites. © 2012 IEEE.
Graphene enhances the magnetoresistance of FeNi3nanoparticles in hierarchical FeNi3–graphene nanocomposites

An increase in the giant magnetoresistance of FeNi3 nanoparticles of 20 times has been observed in FeNi3–graphene nanocomposites synthesized using NiFe-layered double hydroxide hybrids as precursors. The magnetic, transport and magneto-transport properties of these nanocomposites are studied and compared with those of the pure FeNi3 nanoparticles. The hierarchical structure and hybrid composition of these magnetic nanocomposites lead to the observation of two unusual magneto-transport properties, namely (i) an enhancement in the low-field magnetoresistance effects, and (ii) a crossover from negative to positive MR upon cooling down the sample.
Synthesis and Properties of Amine-Cured Epoxy/Organophilic Layered Silicate Nanocomposites

Epoxy-layered silicate composites have been prepared by dispersing an organically modified montmorillonite (Nanofil 919) in an epoxy resin and curing in the presence of an aromatic hardener. Dispersion of the layered silicate within the epoxy matrix was verified using X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy revealing that interaction improves upon organic silicate modification. Flexural properties and toughness increase with the organic silicate loading whereas glass transition temperature decreases and thermal stability remains practically unmodified.

Abstract A wide use of advanced carbon nanotube polymer composites can be boosted by new non-destructive evaluation (NDE) techniques that can test the quality of the products to ensure that their specifications are met. It is well known in literature that the parameter that far more than others can affect the enhancing capabilities of the carbon nanotubes is their dispersion. Ag and Au/DNQ-novolac nanocomposites patternable by ultraviolet lithography: a fast route to plasmonic sensor microfabrication

In this work we report on a method to synthesize Ag–Au nanoparticles/polymer nanocomposite patterns by UV lithography. The photoresists are based on DNQ-novolac as the polymer matrix, and Ag(I) and Au(III) salts as the nanoparticle precursors. After UV lithography, silver and gold nanoparticles are in situ synthesized inside the polymer patterns during a post bake. The resulting structured nanocomposite shows a characteristic absorbance spectrum related to the plasmon frequency of the synthesized noble metal NPs. The role of organoclay and matrix type in photo-oxidation of polyolefin/clay nanocomposite films

Abstract In this paper the photo-oxidation behaviour of polyolefin/clay nanocomposite films was studied; in particular, the effect of the amount of organo-modifier and the matrix polarity on the photo-oxidation was investigated. Two different organo-modified clays and compositions of LDPE/EVA blend films were used and the photo-oxidation was followed by mechanical and spectroscopic analyses. The organoclay and matrix type strongly influence the photo-oxidative behaviour of nanocomposite films.
