Multi-Antenna Covert Communication With Jamming in the Presence of a Mobile Warden
2021
Covert communication can hide the information transmission process from the warden to prevent adversarial eavesdropping. However, it becomes challenging when the warden can move. In this paper, we propose a covert communication scheme against a mobile warden, which maximizes the connectivity throughput between a multi-antenna transmitter and a full-duplex jamming receiver with the covert outage probability (COP) limit. First, we analyze the monotonicity of the COP to obtain the optimal location the warden can move. Then, under this worst situation, we optimize the transmission rate, the transmit power and the jamming power of covert communication to maximize the connection throughput. This …
Directive local color transfer based on dynamic look-up table
2019
Abstract Color transfer in image processing usually suffers from misleading color mapping and loss of details. This paper presents a novel directive local color transfer method based on dynamic look-up table (D-DLT) to solve these problems in two steps. First, a directive mapping between the source and the reference image is established based on the salient detection and the color clusters to obtain directive color transfer intention. Then, dynamic look-up tables are created according to the color clusters to preserve the details, which can suppress pseudo contours and avoid detail loss. Subjective and objective assessments are presented to verify the feasibility and the availability of the…
Towards a SDN-based architecture for analyzing network traffic in cloud computing infrastructures
2015
Currently, network traffic monitoring tools do not fit well in the monitoring of cloud computing infrastructures. These tools are not integrated with the control plane of the cloud computing stack. This lack of integration causes a deficiency in the handling of the re-usage of IP addresses along virtual machines, a lack of adaption and reaction on highly frequent topology changes, and a lack of accuracy in the metrics gathered for the networking traffic flowing along the cloud infrastructure. The main contribution of this paper is to provide a novel SDN-based architecture to carry out the monitoring of network traffic in cloud infrastructures. The architecture in based on the integration be…
Defending Surveillance Sensor Networks Against Data-Injection Attacks Via Trusted Nodes
2018
By injecting false data through compromised sensors, an adversary can drive the probability of detection in a sensor network-based spatial field surveillance system to arbitrarily low values. As a countermeasure, a small subset of sensors may be secured. Leveraging the theory of Matched Subspace Detection, we propose and evaluate several detectors that add robustness to attacks when such trusted nodes are available. Our results reveal the performance-security tradeoff of these schemes and can be used to determine the number of trusted nodes required for a given performance target.
LifeRescue: A web based application for emergency responders during fire emergency response
2016
In order to respond to any kind of building fire emergencies, first-responders have to use lot of time to get access to the emergency data such as location of the victims who are still inside the building, location of the hazardous material, location of the resources and location of the exits in order to perform search and rescue. However, search is possibly one of the most dangerous activities on the fire ground. Sometimes the visibility is zero and the environment is really hot. Because of the limited operating time in the building, the key to successful search is how quickly emergency responders can get access to the emergency related information in order to save victims and the property…

Priority Enabled Grant-Free Access With Dynamic Slot Allocation for Heterogeneous mMTC Traffic in 5G NR Networks
2021
Although grant-based mechanisms have been a predominant approach for wireless access for years, the additional latency required for initial handshake message exchange and the extra control overhead for packet transmissions have stimulated the emergence of grant-free (GF) transmission. GF access provides a promising mechanism for carrying low and moderate traffic with small data and fits especially well for massive machine type communications (mMTC) applications. Despite a surge of interest in GF access, how to handle heterogeneous mMTC traffic based on GF mechanisms has not been investigated in depth. In this paper, we propose a priority enabled GF access scheme which performs dynamic slot …
DTMC modeling for performance evaluation of DW-MAC in wireless sensor networks
2016
Synchronized duty cycling (DC) aligns sensor nodes to wake up at the same time in order to reduce idle listening for medium access control (MAC) in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Demand wakeup MAC (DW-MAC) is a popular synchronous DC MAC protocol which allows nodes to compete and transmit multiple packets in one operational cycle. This multiple packet transmission (MPT) feature makes DW-MAC more energy efficient when comparing with other existing single time competition based protocols such as sensor MAC (S-MAC). In the literature, no analytical model exists to evaluate the performance of DW-MAC. In this paper, we develop two associated discrete time Markov chain (DTMC) models and incorpo…
Probabilistic Transition-Based Approach for Detecting Application-Layer DDoS Attacks in Encrypted Software-Defined Networks
2017
With the emergence of cloud computing, many attacks, including Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks, have changed their direction towards cloud environment. In particular, DDoS attacks have changed in scale, methods, and targets and become more complex by using advantages provided by cloud computing. Modern cloud computing environments can benefit from moving towards Software-Defined Networking (SDN) technology, which allows network engineers and administrators to respond quickly to the changing business requirements. In this paper, we propose an approach for detecting application-layer DDoS attacks in cloud environment with SDN. The algorithm is applied to statistics extracted from…
Service level guarantee framework for IoT environments
2017
Nowadays, providing IoT environments with service level guarantee is a challenging task. We propose a framework for IoT service level guarantee thanks to several specific Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for IoT environments. We specify different SLAs for each entity contributing in our IoT architecture in order to conclude a global SLA called IoT-SLA (iSLA). These different SLAs enable IoT service provision with Quality of Service (QoS) guarantee. Achieving this guarantee requires several communications and interactions between the components of the proposed IoT architecture. These interactions allow an IoT Service Provider (IoT-SP) to conclude the iSLA with an IoT Client (IoT-C). We specif…
