Latvijā māsu trūkums ir nopietna problēma. Pēc Māsu Asociācijas statistikas datiem, Latvijā no 18 700 māsām strādā tikai 8750 , kas nozīmē, ka visa darba slodze tiek sadalīta starp strādājošo māsu skaitu, kas izraisa pārslodzi māsu vidū. Pēc definīcijas, anestēzijas un intensīvās aprūpes māsām ir jāspēj veikt pacientu aprūpi pirms un pēc operācijas, sekot pacienta stāvoklim, spēt reaģēt akūtās situācijās un sniegt pirmo neatliekamo palīdzību un papildus māsas pamatspecialitātes pienākumi , kuru dēļ var būt pārslodze un kognitīvo spēju samazināšanās, kā arī izveidoties izdegšanas sindroms.

The aim is to describe Finnish public health nurses’ concerns during regular health check-ups of preschool-aged children. In 2011, focus-group interviews were conducted with 12 public health nurses. The data were analysed using inductive content analysis. Public health nurses’ concerns dealt with the healthy growth and development of children and their ability to cope with difficult family situations, as well as the everyday reality of parenting. Wstęp: Do najczęstszych chorób przewlekłych w Polsce i na świecie nadal należą choroby układu krążenia, które mimo prowadzonych działań profilaktycznych, stanowią główną przyczynę śmierci. Istotną rolę w opiece pozaszpitalnej nad pacjentami z przewlekłymi chorobami układu krążenia odgrywają pielęgniarki rodzinne.
