Influence and use of information sources about childbearing among Spanish pregnant women

2020

Background: Pregnant women create their childbirth expectations from their available information. Therefore, they should have access to reliable and quality medical information. However, the literature points a knowledge gap with respect to the sources of information used by them. Objectives: The primary objective was to analyse the most influential and widely used sources of information about childbearing in Spanish pregnant women. The secondary objectives were to assess the quality and usefulness of the information sources, to identify those regarded as deficient by pregnant women and to discover differences in information use related to parity. Design and methods: A cross-sectional descr…

Violence against women: An observational study in an Italian emergency department

2021

Abstract Violence against women is a pervasive phenomenon affecting one in three women aged ≥15 in the world that are more likely to visit an emergency department (ED) for the serious physical and psychological consequences of the abuse. The aim of this observational single-centre study is to describe the socio-demographic and clinical variables associated with violence against women. We enrolled 425 female patients who attended an Italian ED for trauma on 2019 and the patients' information was collected and analyzed with descriptive statistics. The average age of the patients was 41.5 (standard deviation = 14.2) years. 74.6% of the women were Italians, and 86.6% were of metropolitan origin…

The effective group size for teaching cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills – A randomized controlled simulation trial

2021

Abstract Aim of the study The ideal group size for effective teaching of cardiopulmonary resuscitation is currently under debate. The upper limit is reached when instructors are unable to correct participants’ errors during skills practice. This simulation study aimed to define this limit during cardiopulmonary resuscitation teaching. Methods Medical students acting as simulated Basic Life Support course participants were instructed to make three different pre-defined Basic Life Support quality errors (e.g., chest compression too fast) in 7 min. Basic Life Support instructors were randomized to groups of 3–10 participants. Instructors were asked to observe the Basic Life Support skills and …

Sympathetic Vasomotor Response of the Radial Artery in Patients With Diabetic Foot Syndrome

2003

OBJECTIVE—Neurophysiological assessment of the peripheral autonomic system is characterized by various limitations. An alternative approach to laser Doppler and venous plethymography is the assessment of the sympathetic vasomotor response of the radial artery obtained by continuous wave Doppler sonography. Nomogram data have been established and demonstrate the temporary disappearance of diastolic flow after coughing or deep inspiration. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS—We assessed the sympathetic vasomotor response in 25 patients (mean age 64 years, range 43–76) with diabetic foot syndrome. The Doppler data were correlated with nerve conduction studies of the median and peroneal nerve, the exte…

International audience; OBJECTIVE: To assess the role of the mother's mother and mothers' previous personal experiences with breastfeeding and childcare in breastfeeding practices. DESIGN AND SETTING: The analysis included 13,774 mother-infant dyads from the French national birth cohort ELFE. Inguinal Reconstruction Using Pedicled Rectus Abdominis Flap: A Useful Option for the Application of Radiotherapy.

2019

Given their high rate of complications, radical surgical procedures of anorectal and gynecological tumors require a reliable and individualized reconstruction. The latter is influenced by the frequent indication of adjuvant chemo/radiotherapy that they present. We describe the case of a patient with medical history of vulvar carcinoma that required radical surgery and bilateral inguinal lymphadenectomy. Because of the stage of the tumor, the application of postoperative radiotherapy was clinically indicated; however, after surgery, the patient developed bilateral inguinal ulcers that made postoperative radiotherapy application impossible. Using a radical surgical approach in combination wit…

Validity and Reliability of the Spanish Version of the "Abuse Assessment Screen" among Pregnant Women.

2016

Objective: To assess the reliability, accuracy, and construct validity of the Spanish Abuse Assessment Screen (AAS) among pregnant women using the Spanish version of Index of Spouse Abuse (ISA) as a reference standard. Design and Sample: Cross-sectional survey. A total of 1,329 pregnant women were selected in nine primary care centers during 2008-2009. Measures: The Spanish ISA was self-administered first, followed by the AAS, administered by the midwife. Sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values of the Spanish AAS were compared with the Spanish version of the ISA as a reference standard. Results: Percentage of agreement between initial and retest administration of the Spanish AAS was…
