Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection and Diverse Physical Health Outcomes: An Umbrella Review of Meta-analyses of Observational Studies.

2019

Abstract Background Our aim was to assess both the credibility and strength of evidence arising from systematic reviews with meta-analyses of observational studies and physical health outcomes associated with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) but not acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. Methods We performed an umbrella review of observational studies. Evidence was graded as convincing, highly suggestive, suggestive, weak, or nonsignificant. Results From 3413 studies returned, 20 were included, covering 55 health outcomes. Median number of participants was 18 743 (range 403–225 000 000). Overall, 45 (81.8%) of the 55 unique outcomes reported nominally significant summary results (P < .05). O…

OBSERVATION AS A METHOD: FREE MANIFESTATION IN THE MONTESSORI APPROACH

2021

In Montessori pedagogy, one of the fundamental teacher’s characteristics is the attitude to active observation, this, infact, figure out as a learning source basilar for every teacher's work. For Maria Montessori (1999) it is essential to prepare master observers able to observe and guide the child's development while respecting the natural course. The time used for observation is precious moment to avoid that “the vain effort of those looking for a hidden object and the anxiety of those who need support escape”, as well as a moment to catch the essence of a child and his needs. To avoid that observer ideas, prejudice and proclivities will not distort the action of observation, an observati…

Degree of terrestrial activity of the elusive sun-tailed monkey (Cercopithecus solatus) in Gabon: Comparative study of behavior and postcranial morph…

2015

We carried out a multidisciplinary study linking behavioral and morphological data from a little-known guenon species, Cercopithecus solatus, endemic to Gabon. Over a period of 9 months, we documented the pattern of stratum use associated with postural and locomotor behavior by direct observation (650 hrs) of a semi-free-ranging breeding colony. We also conducted a morphometric analysis of the humerus and limb proportions of 90 adult specimens from 16 guenon species, including C. solatus. Field observations indicated that C. solatus monkeys spent a third of their time on the ground, similar to semi-terrestrial guenon species. We detected two patterns of stratum use: at ground level, and in …

Creative Teaching Methods for Educating Engineers

2013

Active learning has received considerable attention over the past several years. Often presented or perceived as a radical change from traditional instruction, the topic frequently polarizes academic staff. Todays students are bombarded with plenty of information and are distracted by technology gadgets (such as smart phones) or suffer from attention deficit disorder [10]. Thus, academic staffs are challenged to capture students attention and to engage them in the didactic process. The paper presents two innovative teaching methods experimented in the seminaries of the Production Planning course that has been taught at the Faculty of Engineering of Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu and the i…

Objectives: The present naturalistic study aims to investigate the differential effects of the patient’s and the therapist’s attachment representations on the attachment to the therapist as perceived by the patient, and their impact on self-esteem-change through psychotherapy. Methods: Attachment variables of N = 573 patients as well as N = 16 therapists were assessed. Attachment representations were measured for therapists and patients via the Bielefelder Questionnaire for Client Attachment Exploration, the Relationship Specific Attachment to Therapist Scales and the Adult Attachment Interview. The patient’s attachment to therapists was evaluated and patients’ self-esteem was measured via t…

The parent-nurse relationship in the neonatal intensive care unit context - closeness and emotional involvement

2008

Aim and background:  Family-centred care, which acknowledges parents as partners in care, is a desirable and essential part of neonatal nursing. There has been extensive research on parents’ experiences of parenting in neonatal intensive care units (NICU), but there is little research on nurses’ experiences of being in these enduring close relationships. The aim of this paper is to explore parents’ and nurses’ experiences of the close parent–nurse relationship when a premature child is hospitalized. Method:  The design was exploratory with a hermeneutic approach. The methods used were participant observation and in-depth interviews with six mothers, six fathers and six nurses in a Norwegian…

A new proposed cloud computing based architecture for space ground data systems

2018

International audience; Many companies decided to move towards the cloud computing technology in order to manage, monitor and explore huge space data amount in the space ground data systems. The corresponding transition adaptation needs a study to classify each space related service in the appropriate cloud computing service model layer; SaaS, PaaS and IaaS. In this paper, we specify a representation of proposed cloud computing based ground data system architecture for earth observation missions. The proposed architecture takes into consideration the collaboration aspect between multiple space agencies. We evaluate the time, storage and processing performance when using the cloud computing …

Experiences faced by next of kin during their older family members’ transition into long-term care in a Norwegian nursing home

2013

Aims and objectives To describe and explore experiences of next of kin during the older persons’ transition into long-term care. Background Moving into long-term care is a challenge for both resident and next of kin. Next of kin experience transitions at the same time as they play significant parts in their family members’ transition into long-term care placement. Design Constructivist hermeneutical design. Methods Ten next of kin to newly admitted eight residents were recruited by purposeful sampling and interviewed. Periodic participant observation periods following new residents on arrival day and the first week after admission and some written documentation were the backdrops to the int…

The Flipped Classroom: a Way to Decrease Boredom and Encourage Student Motivation.
