Low doses of transdermal buprenorphine in opioid-naive patients with cancer pain: A 4-week, nonrandomized, open-label, uncontrolled observational stu…
2009
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect and tolerability of low doses of transdermal (TD) buprenorphine patches in opioid-naive patients with cancer pain. METHODS: This was a nonrandomized, open-label, uncontrolled study in consecutive opioid-naive patients with advanced cancer and moderate pain. TD buprenorphine was initiated at a dose of 17.5 microg/h (0.4 mg/d), with patch changes every 3 days. Doses were then adjusted according to the clinical response. Pain intensity, opioid-related adverse effects, TD buprenorphine doses, and quality of life were monitored over 4 weeks. The time to dose stabilization and indexes of dose escalation were also calculated. RESULTS: Thi…
Children with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Relationships between symptoms and executive function, theory of mind, and behavio…
2018
Abstract Background The underlying mechanisms of comorbidity between autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are still unknown. Executive function (EF) deficits and theory of mind (ToM) have been the most investigated cognitive processes. Aims This study proposed to analyze EF, ToM and behavioral problems in children with ASD + ADHD, ADHD, ASD and typical development (TD). The relationship between ADHD and ASD symptoms with EF, ToM and behavioral problems in children with ASD + ADHD was also explored. Methods and procedures Participants were 124 children between 7 and 11 years old (22 ASD + ADHD, 35 ADHD, 30 ASD, and 37 TD), matched on age and IQ. …
Chemoimmunotherapy with O-FC in previously untreated patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia
2011
We conducted an international phase 2 trial to evaluate 2 dose levels of ofatumumab, a human CD20 mAb, combined with fludarabine and cyclophosphamide (O-FC) as frontline therapy for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Patients with active CLL were randomized to ofatumumab 500 mg (n = 31) or 1000 mg (n = 30) day 1, with fludarabine 25 mg/m2 and cyclophosphamide 250 mg/m2 days 2-4, course 1; days 1-3, courses 2-6; every 4 weeks for 6 courses. The first ofatumumab dose was 300 mg for both cohorts. The median age was 56 years; 13% of patients had a 17p deletion; 64% had β2-microglobulin > 3.5 mg/L. Based on the 1996 National Cancer Institute Working Group (NCI-WG) guidelines, the complete respo…
Clinical course of isolated distal deep vein thrombosis in patients with active cancer: a multicenter cohort study
2017
Essentials Isolated distal deep vein thrombosis (IDDVT) is frequently associated with cancer. No study has specifically evaluated the long-term clinical course of cancer-associated IDDVT. Patients with cancer-associated IDDVT are at very high risk of symptomatic recurrence and death. We observed low rates of major bleeding during anticoagulation. SummaryBackground Although isolated distal deep vein thrombosis (IDDVT) is frequently associated with cancer, no study has specifically evaluated the long-term clinical course of IDDVT in this setting. Aim To provide data on the rate of recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE), major bleeding events and death in IDDVT patients with active cancer. Pat…
Predicting domain-specific actions in expert table tennis players activates the semantic brain network.
2018
Motor expertise acquired during long-term training in sports enables top athletes to predict the outcomes of domain-specific actions better than nonexperts do. However, whether expert players encode actions, in addition to the concrete sensorimotor level, also at a more abstract, conceptual level, remains unclear. The present study manipulated the congruence between body kinematics and the subsequent ball trajectory in videos of an expert player performing table tennis serves. By using functional magnetic resonance imaging, the brain activity was evaluated in expert and nonexpert table tennis players during their predictions on the fate of the ball trajectory in congruent versus incongruent…
Multitemporal Cloud Masking in the Google Earth Engine
2018
The exploitation of Earth observation satellite images acquired by optical instruments requires an automatic and accurate cloud detection. Multitemporal approaches to cloud detection are usually more powerful than their single scene counterparts since the presence of clouds varies greatly from one acquisition to another whereas surface can be assumed stationary in a broad sense. However, two practical limitations usually hamper their operational use: the access to the complete satellite image archive and the required computational power. This work presents a cloud detection and removal methodology implemented in the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform in order to meet these r…
Children's help seeking and impulsivity
2004
Abstract The aim of the present study was to analyze the relationship between students' (100 children aged 8 to 12) help-seeking behavior and impulsivity. Help-seeking behavior was evaluated using a naturalistic experimental paradigm in which children were placed in a problem-solving situation and had the opportunity to seek help from the experimenter, if needed. Impulsivity was analyzed using the Hyperactivity–Impulsivity Scale from the Teacher Rating Form of the Multidimensional Peer Nomination Inventory (TR-MPNI), Circle Tracing Task (CTT), Matching Familiar Figures (MFF), and Impulsiveness and Venturesomeness scales from the Eysenck Junior I 6 questionnaire. Structural equation modeling…
Observation directe de la croissance d'hydrosilicate de calcium sur des surfaces d'alité et de silice par microscopie à force atomique
1998
Direct observation of the growth of calcium silicate hydrates, the tricalcium silicate hydration products, at the solid-solution interface were performed by atomic force microscopy. The covering of the surface of alite or silica by a three-dimensional oriented aggregation of nano particles of calcium silicate hydrate is always observed whatever the sample. All observations and quantifications made on calcium silicate growth at the submicronic level are in agreement with the data deduced from the study of the system evolution at the macroscopic level.
Direct observation of smectic layers in side chain liquid crystal polymer films
1987
Abstract By applying stringent conditions to the imaging process it has been possible to produce electron micrographs of the smectic planes in a highly beam sensitive polymethcrylate side chain liquid crystal polymer. These planes show a high degree of internal perfection, while, at the same time, showing clear evidence of curvature. The director orientation was determined over a fairly large region.
Hydraulic jumps at drop and abrupt enlargement in rectangular channel
2002
The different types of hydraulic jumps that occur in a rectangular channel at an abrupt increase in section are experimentally studied. The abrupt section increase is due to both a drop and an increase in the channel width. Experiments were carried out with three different values of the ratio L/l between the channel widths respectively downstream and upstream of the abrupt section increase. For each L/l value five values of Froude number F1, of the supercritical flow upstream of the section increase were considered, and for each of them live values of the depth y1 of the same flow. The experiments showed that, as the depth y2 of the downstream subcritical flow increases, several types of hy…
