Supplementation with d-chiro-inositol in women
2023
The world of natural compounds has been investigated with the aim of discovering possible medical applications ever since the origin of medicine. Recently, the field of gynecology has developed a growing interest regarding inositols. Inositols are cyclic polyols with a key role in many metabolic pathways. Their stability throughout the evolution of life can mark these molecules as prebiotic, due to their biochemical importance. These molecules can be classified into nine stereoisomeric compounds; among them, myo-inositol (MI) is the most important and frequent form found in nature. Inositols were first discovered in 1850 by Johanes Joseph Scherer and extracted from muscle cells, the name of…

LA PREVENZIONE ED IL TRATTAMENTO DELLE PATOLOGIE HPV-CORRELATE: FOLLOW-UP E PERFORMANCE RIPRODUTTIVA
2007
Relationship between HPV-infection and reproductive performance includes patients who during trial become pregnant. Main chapter indeed represents genital lesions treatments sequelae. Clinical phase 3 studies showed that spontaneous abortion rate in both groups (Gardasil and placebo respectively) was comparable (33% vs 31.6%). Moreover, there were 25 cases of congenital abnormalities among newborns and live foetuses, and congenital abnormalities global rate was similar than normal population. Therefore, there is no evidence that Gardasil adversely influences fertility, pregnancy and neonatal outcome. Cold-cut conization, laser-conization, laser-ablation, LEEP or LLETZ are conservative techn…

Learning Laparoscopic Radical Hysterectomy: Are We Facing an Emerging Situation?
2023
Despite wide screening campaigns and early detection, cervical cancer remains the fourth most common cancer among women. Radical hysterectomy, whether by open, laparoscopic or by robotic-assisted techniques, is the mainstay treatment. However, for adequate surgical results and good oncological prognosis, a gynecological surgeon should be trained to perform those procedures. The learning curve of radical hysterectomy, especially by laparoscopy, is influenced by several factors. The LACC trial, the decrease in cervical cancer incidence and radical hysterectomy procedures have widely reduced the learning curve for surgeons. This article mainly discusses the learning curve of laparoscopic radic…

Nonhormonal management of postmenopausal women: Effects of a red clover based isoflavones supplementation on climacteric syndrome and cardiovascular …
2013
The aim of this prospective randomized study was to evaluate a red clover based isoflavones supplementation in the treatment of climacteric syndrome and its effects on cardiovascular risk serum profile. Materials and Methods: The study included 150 healthy postmenopausal women that were randomly assigned to receive phytoestrogens tablets, amounting in a total daily intake of 60.8 mg red clover isoflavones plus 19.2 mg soy isoflavones (n = 75), or placebo (n = 75). The authors evaluated teh following: daily number of hot flushes and Kupperman Index at baseline and after one and three months; serum total, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, triglyceri…
The Role of Micronutrients in Human Papillomavirus Infection, Cervical Dysplasia, and Neoplasm
2023
There is evidence that diet and nutrition are modifiable risk factors for several cancers. In recent years, attention paid to micronutrients in gynecology has increased, especially regarding Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. We performed a review of the literature up until December 2022, aiming to clarify the effects of micronutrients, minerals, and vitamins on the history of HPV infection and the development of cervical cancer. We included studies having as their primary objective the evaluation of dietary supplements, in particular calcium; zinc; iron; selenium; carotenoids; and vitamins A, B12, C, D, E, and K. Different oligo-elements and micronutrients demonstrated a potential prote…
