Responses of methane oxidation to temperature and water content in cover soil of a boreal landfill

2007

Abstract Methane oxidation in a cover soil of a landfill located in a boreal climate was studied at temperatures ranging from 1–19 °C and with water content of 7–34% of dry weight (dw), corresponding to 17–81% of water-holding capacity (WHC) in order to better understand the factors regulating CH 4 oxidation at low temperatures. CH 4 consumption was detected at all the temperatures studied (1–19 °C) and an increase in CH 4 consumption rate in consecutive incubations was obtained even at 1 °C, indicating activation or increase in enzymes and/or microorganisms responsible for CH 4 oxidation. CH 4 consumption was reduced with low water content (17%WHC) at all temperatures. The response of CH 4…

Effect of grafting, cultivar and cold storage on eggplant fruits

2011

Eggplant is a perishable fruit that, once harvested, can be stored at 10 °C for several days. If long stored, fruits reduce their texture, skin brightness and become rubbery. Recently, grafting onto Solanum torvum has become more and more used to give resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses. The aim of this work was to study the effect of grafting, cultivar and cold storage on post-harvest changes of eggplant fruits. Grafted or ungrafted plants of four cultivars were grown in an unheated greenhouse during autumn-spring period. Three cultivars had skin with very dark purple colour (Black Bell, Black Moon and Longo) and one had skin with unhomogeneous light purple colour (Birgah). After har…

Charged Tags for the Identification of Oxidative Drug Metabolites Based on Electrochemistry and Mass Spectrometry

2020

Abstract Most of the active pharmaceutical ingredients like Metoprolol are oxidatively metabolized by liver enzymes, such as Cytochrome P450 monooxygenases into oxygenates and therefore hydrophilic products. It is of utmost importance to identify the metabolites and to gain knowledge on their toxic impacts. By using electrochemistry, it is possible to mimic enzymatic transformations and to identify metabolic hot spots. By introducing charged‐tags into the intermediate, it is possible to detect and isolate metabolic products. The identification and synthesis of initially oxidized metabolites are important to understand possible toxic activities. The gained knowledge about the metabolism will…

Preferential azido bridging regulating the structural aspects in cobalt(III) and copper(II)–Schiff base complexes: Syntheses, magnetostructural corre…

2011

International audience; A tridentate NNO donor Schiff base ligand [(1Z,3E)-3-((pyridin-2-yl)methylimino)-1-phenylbut-1-en-1-ol = LH] in presence of azide ions coordinates with cobalt(II) and copper(II) ions giving rise to three new coordination complexes [Co2(L)2(μ1,1-N3)2(N3)2] (1), [Cu2(L)2(μ1,3-N3)]·ClO4 (2) and [(μ1,1-N3)2Cu5(μ-OL)2(μ1,1-N3)4(μ1,1,1-N3)2]n (3). The complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV–Vis spectral studies, and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. These complexes demonstrate that under different synthetic conditions the azide ions and the Schiff base ligand (LH) show different coordination modes with cobalt(II) and copper(II) ions, givi…

Mo-W-containing tetragonal tungsten bronzes through isomorphic substitution of molybdenum by tungsten

2010

Mixed metal oxides based in Mo(W)–Nb–V–Te with tetragonal tungsten bronze (TTB) structure have been synthesized by a hydrothermal method from aqueous solutions of the corresponding Keggin-type heteropolyacids and further heat-treatment in N2 at 700 ◦ C. The materials have been characterized by several physico-chemical techniques, i.e. XRD, Raman, FTIR, SEM-EDS, and TEM. This procedure allows controlling the chemical species to be distributed in the different interstices of the TTB skeleton, which is a key factor to regulate the catalytic properties of the final solid. In this sense, the isomorphic replacement of Mo by W results in lattice parameter and crystal morphology variation, although…

Methane-derived carbonate conduits from the late Aptian of Salinac (Marne Bleues, Vocontian Basin, France): Petrology and biosignatures

2015

Abstract Peculiar carbonate bodies occur in distinct marl layers of the Marnes Bleues Formation (Aptian–Albian, Vocontian Basin, Southern France). The carbonate conduits exhibit pipe- or sausage-like forms and a central channel. Their sizes range between 30 and 60 cm in length and 5–10 cm in diameter. The conduit carbonates consist of automicrite authigenically formed within the sediment. Millimeter-sized aggregates of framboidal pyrite are abundant within the conduit automicrites, probably representing former colonies of sulfate reducing bacteria. The central channel reflects former pathways of reduced fluids in the carbonate conduit. Ni-enrichments at the margins of the central cavity are…

Cobalt in strontium titanate based perovskites: preparation, characterization and role in the photocatalytic propene partial oxidation

2016

Strontium titanate perovskite (SrTiO3) and analogous materials in which Y partially substitutes Sr have been prepared as basis to integrate Co in the structure. The Co inserrtion has been performed by wet impregnation or coprecipitation methods. The obtained powders have been physico-chemically characterized and tested as photocatalysts in the propene partial oxidation by using a solar simulating reactor. Correlation between photocatalytic performance and physicochemical characteristics of the different catalysts allows to assess a key role of local nanostructuring of CoOx sites on the selectivity and distribution of products.

GHB related acids are useful in routine casework of suspected GHB intoxication cases

2021

Abstract GHB related acids (3,4-dihydroxy butyric acid, 2,4-dihydroxy butyric acid and glycolic acid) are produced through oxidative GHB metabolism. These analytes could be potential biomarkers to ensure the diagnosis of a GHB intoxication and even prolong the detection window. Within this study, forensic routine cases were measured to consider the potential of additional gas chromatographic mass spectrometric analysis on these acids. 17 GHB positive real cases (10 serum samples and 7 urine samples) and 40 cases with suspicion of drugging in DFC cases and negative GHB results (21 serum samples and 19 urine samples) were evaluated. Increased GHB related acid concentrations were detected in a…
