The volume Tommaso Maria Napoli Utriusque Architecturae Brief Compendium 1688 Rome treaty on civil and military factories and preservation of the architecture of the Dominican friar Tommaso Maria Napoli wants to help increase our understanding of the principles that should underpin the realization of civil and military baroque and late baroque period as expressed in the short treatise written by the monk architect born in Palermo Tommaso Maria Napoli (1659-1725) and published in Rome at the end of the seventeenth century. This translation from the Latin of the treaty drawn up by experts (Fabio Zarbo e Pietro Zarbo) included is an interesting research drafted jointly with Giuseppe Tantillo status of some of the architecture without realizing or attributed to the architect Tommaso Maria Napoli. In fact some cards are attached to the volume on the substance and state of preservation of the cathedral of the Assumption of Mary in Dubrovnik (Croatia) of the villas Valguarnera and Palagonia in Bagheria (near Palermo Italy) of the monument to the Immaculate and one of the towers of the church of San Domenico in Palermo (Italy). The volume is enriched by the presentation and afterword by Francesco Tomaselli that among other things starting from the definition of Restoration expressed by Tommaso Maria Napoli in his book presents a stimulating reflection on the meaning of Restoration. This paper offers a reflection on the expected competencies identified through the formulation of the Dublin descriptors of the CdS in Education Sciences (L-19) and Primary Education Sciences (LM-85bis) established at the University of Palermo and in the same time to propose a model for the development of professional maturity necessary to ensure informed mature and responsible choices. Epistemic and didactic values of the demonstrative process in different cultures: a case study in Geometry with Chinese and Italian students

This paper presents same key findings of the research project conducted by G.R.I.M. of Palermo on the approaches to justification and proof in Geometry by investigating how Chinese and Italian teachers and students taught particular geometrical topics refereed to different epistemic and didactic values related to own culture. It was found that Chinese teachers and students emphasized justification of the proof by a stressed visual verification based on some metarules linked with the structure of their own written language and defined as historical Chinese modus operandi in the Jiuzhang Suanshu. The Italians paid close attention to mathematical proof by a hypoxemic deductive system defined on the Euclide’ Elements. The geometrical problem discussed on the paper was defined and presented as “one problem multiple solution problems” and “one problem multiple changes”. Important aspect of the case study discussed in the paper focus on the mediation of knowledge between Chinese and Italian students involved in multicultural class. Sedimentary record of anthropogenic chemical and organic pollution in a Mediterranean coastal area (Gulf of Palermo, Italy).

The relatively high influx of unregulated industrial and domestic effluents has progressively degraded the Palermo coastal environment in NW Sicily. To evaluate the poorly known effects of these inputs on the Palermo Gulf, three sediment box-cores were collected along a transect perpendicular to the coast, in front of the Oreto river mouth, in water depths of 20—750 m. The samples, dated by 210Pb and 137Cs, were analysed for concentration of major/trace elements, total polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), total organic carbon (TOC) and for organic carbon and nitrogen isotopic compositions.
