Metabolic impact of Partial Volume Correction of [18F]FDG PET-CT oncological studies on the assessment of tumor response to treatment
2014
AIM: The aim of this work is to evaluate the metabolic impact of Partial Volume Correction (PVC) on the measurement of the Standard Uptake Value (SUV) from [18F]FDG PET-CT oncological studies for treatment monitoring purpose. METHODS: Twenty-nine breast cancer patients with bone lesions (42 lesions in total) underwent [18F]FDG PET-CT studies after surgical resection of breast cancer primitives, and before (PET-I) and after (PET-II) chemotherapy and hormone treatment. PVC of bone lesion uptake was performed on the two [18F]FDG PET-CT studies, using a method based on Recovery Coefficients (RC) and on an automatic measurement of lesion metabolic volume. Body-weight average SUV was calculated f…
Excusiology. Tentativo di una traduzione penalistica dell’effetto Lucifero
2020
The article tries to figure out whether and to what extent the situationist approach by Philip Zimbardo, as it emerges in The Lucifer Effect, can be translated into penal terms. The notorious case of Abu Ghraib, as presented by Zimbardo in his book, is used as a test. The article is divided into three parts. The first part is devoted to reconstructing the features of the “Abu Ghraib situation” (AGs), which is described by Zimbardo as a total situation causing deindividuation (in authors) and dehumanization (of victims). In the second part, the AGs’ features are compared to those of moral coercion: while the latter is generally assumed to have a transformative effect on the moral value of th…
A fixed point theorem for (varphi,L)-weak contraction mappings on a partial metric space
2014
In this paper, we explore (varphi,L)-weak contractions of Berinde by obtaining Suzuki-type fixed point results. Thus, we obtain generalized fixed point results for Kannan's, Chatterjea's and Zamfirescu's mappings on a 0-complete partial metric space. In this way we obtain very general fixed point theorems that extend and generalize several related results from the literature.
C*-seminorms and representation on partial *-algebras
2008
In this paper we investigate the *-representations of a partial *-algebra A. In particular, it is proved that, if A is semiassociative and if the set of right multipliers is dense with respect to a seminorm p on A, there exists a bounded and regular *-represenation on A.
Existence of two positive solutions for anisotropic nonlinear elliptic equations
2021
This paper deals with the existence of nontrivial solutions for a class of nonlinear elliptic equations driven by an anisotropic Laplacian operator. In particular, the existence of two nontrivial solutions is obtained, adapting a two critical point results to a suitable functional framework that involves the anisotropic Sobolev spaces.
Common fixed points of generalized Mizoguchi-Takahashi type contractions in partial metric spaces
2015
We give some common fixed point results for multivalued mappings in the setting of complete partial metric spaces. Our theorems extend and complement analogous results in the existing literature on metric and partial metric spaces. Finally, we provide an example to illustrate the new theory.
Fixed point results for weak contractive mappings in ordered K-metric spaces
2012
In this paper, we derive new coincidence and common fixed point theorems for self-maps satisfying a weak contractive condition in an ordered K-metric space. As application, the obtained results are used to prove an existence theorem of solutions of a nonlinear integral equation.
Fixed points for weak $\varphi$-contractions on partial metric spaces
2011
In this paper, following [W.A. Kirk, P.S. Srinivasan, P. Veeramani, Fixed points for mappings satisfying cyclical contractive conditions, Fixed Point Theory, 4 (2003) 79-89], we give a fixed point result for cyclic weak $\varphi$-contractions on partial metric space. A Maia type fixed point theorem for cyclic weak $\varphi$-contractions is also given.

Sequentially Forecasting Economic Indices Using Mixture Linear Combinations of EP Distributions
2021
This article displays an application of the statistical method moti- vated by Bruno de Finetti's operational subjective theory of probability. We use exchangeable forecasting distributions based on mixtures of linear com- binations of exponential power (EP) distributions to forecast the sequence of daily rates of return from the Dow-Jones index of stock prices over a 20 year period. The operational subjective statistical method for comparing distributions is quite different from that commonly used in data analysis, because it rejects the basic tenets underlying the practice of hypothesis test- ing. In its place, proper scoring rules for forecast distributions are used to assess the values o…
