The genetic mechanism of fallness: St. Maximos the Confessor revisited

Through a close reading of the two definitions of evil in the Introduction to Responses to Thalassios , this article points out a circular, cognitive-affective-somatic, genetic mechanism that St. Maximos the Confessor considers responsible for the initiation and transmission of the fallness as a human condition and the specific manifestation of it in the form of passions. It elucidates the first definition as mainly phenomenological, by identifying the circular mechanism and its behavioural expressions, and the second definition as more aetiological, by explaining why this mechanism emerges and reemerges with the fallen humanity despite its catastrophic results. Since it hit the headlines and aroused the interest of scholars, the phenomenon of posttruth has received two main different interpretations: someone has observed that in the phenomenon there is nothing really new: lies and fakes are always existed and the only real difference is represented by the speed with which today, thanks to the means of communication, they spread. Others, on the other hand, have emphasized the close relationship between postmodernism and post-truth, arguing that the first one is the ideological background of the second one. After the patrimonial destruction that took place during the Civil War of 1936-1939 in the city of Cartagena, religious art and especially sacred sculpture, is greatly affected. The artistic expressions that the Passionist entities took to the streets on the days of Holy Week, disappear almost in their entirety, having to start a tremendously costly reconstruction process in order to alleviate the losses suffered. The Cofradía California commissioned the renovation of its sculptural patrimony heritage, which came to replace the wealth of the works of Salzillo, to the Valencian artist Mariano Benlliure Gil.
