Outcome of Root Canal Treatments Provided by Endodontic Postgraduate Students. A Retrospective Study

The aim of this study was to assess the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative factors that influenced complete periapical healing in teeth that underwent primary root canal treatment (RCT), in patients treated by postgraduate students in endodontics. Factors were retrieved and compared with the periapical status during the follow-up visit. Healing was considered as the absence of clinical and radiological symptoms. Variables significantly associated by the chi-squared test were included in a logistic regression model (LRM). Preoperative factors associated with healing were: American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA) status (p = 0.01)

The objective was to collect the available evidence on oxidative stress marker measurements in periodontal patients, focusing specifically on 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) as a salivary marker of periodontal disease, and to perform meta-analyses to calculate differences in concentration compared to healthy persons. A systematic search in PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Scopus identified 81 articles. Of these, 38 were duplicates. Papillon Lefevre syndrome: bridge between Dermatologist and Dentist

Papillon-Lefevre syndrome is a rare autosomal recessively inherited condition which shows features common to both dentistry and dermatology. This disease is characterized by palmoplantar hyperkeratosis and severe periodon- titis. Therefore both the dentist and the dermatologist should be aware of the same because an early diagnosis of the syndrome can help to preserve the teeth by early institution of treatment, using a multidisciplinary approach. Here we present a case report of Papillon-Lefevre syndrome, along with a comprehensive review of the etiology, pathology, clinical features, differential diagnosis and management of the condition.

Apikālais periodontīts (AP) ir izplatīta hroniska iekaisuma slimība, kas izpaužas kā dinamiska organisma aizsargreakcija pret mikrobu infekciju zobu sakņu kanālu sistēmā. Pētījumi liecina, ka AP ir plaši izplatīts pieaugušajiem - vismaz viens zobs ar AP ir 27 - 80% pieaugušo (Kirkevang & Vaeth, 2019). AP ir tieša saistība ar sakņu kanālu ārstēšanas kvalitāti – nekvalitatīva ārstēšana tiek saistīta ar palielinātu AP izplatību (Chala et al., 2011; Meirinhos et al., 2020). Darba mērķis bija izpētīt apikālā periodontīta izplatību un endodontiskās ārstēšanas biežumu un kvalitāti izvēlētā Latvijas pieaugušo populācijā.
