Physiotherapists' lived experiences of decision making in therapeutic encounters with persons suffering from whiplash-associated disorder: A hermeneu…

2020

Conceptual discussions related to clinical reasoning and decision making have evolved over the years from biomedical to incorporating more holistic approach to reasoning. Empirical studies exploring clinical reasoning and decision making in physiotherapy practice have mostly focused on aspects of managing persons with low back pain, such as exercise prescription, education and communicating diagnosis. There is a paucity of studies exploring decision making in whiplash‐associated disorder (WAD); thus, the aim of this study was to explore the physiotherapists' lived experiences of decision making related to treating persons with WAD. A qualitative research design based on hermeneutic phenomen…

Narratives as a tool to study personnel wellbeing in corporate mergers

2009

This article presents the methodological solutions used in a study investigating personnel wellbeing in the context of mergers and acquisitions in the Nordic electricity business. There have happened rapid changes in working conditions in general and in the electricity business today in the Nordic countries as on a global scale. As a result, the notion of a secure job with the same employer lasting a whole lifetime career seems to have lost its meaning also in the Finnish electricity distribution sector. This has challenged the traditional idea of wellbeing. We wanted to see how a corporate integration is experienced by those whom it affects most: namely, personnel at different levels of th…

The locked psychiatric ward: hotel or detention camp for people with dual diagnosis.

2013

The concepts of autonomy and liberty are established goals in mental health care; however, involuntary commitment is used towards people with mental health and substance abuse problems (dual diagnosis). To explore how patients and staff act in the context of involuntary commitment, how interactions are described and how they might be interpreted.Ethnographic methodology in a locked psychiatric ward in Norway. Two parallel images emerged: (a) The ward as a hotel. Several patients wanted a locked ward for rest and safety, even when admission was classified as involuntary. The staff was concerned about using the ward for real treatment of motivated people, rather than merely as a comfortable hot…

Fostering the healthcare workforce during the COVID ‐19 pandemic: Shared leadership, social capital, and contagion among health professionals

2020

Summary Health professionals managing patients with COVID‐19 disease are at high risk of contagion. All medical personnel involved in caring for patients need coordination, knowledge and trust. Empirical work on human resources has tended to focus on the effects of human resource practices on performance, whereas leadership and social interactions have been overlooked. Based upon interviews with medical staff working in specialised medical units, this study uses the social capital theory to examine relationships among shared leadership, social capital, and contagion rates. First, shared leadership was found to positively affect COVID‐19 contagion among health professionals. Second, by shari…

Transmedia Experience and Narrative Transportation

2016

The aim of this research is to better understand the impact of transmedia storytelling on consumers' experiences in the cultural field (e.g., at a museum or heritage site). Transmedia storytelling refers to the interaction among different forms of media leading to convergence (telling a single story across multiple platforms and forms, namely, using digital technologies). This article discusses whether this multidimensionality of platforms enables a greater appropriation of the story and improves consumers' experience with the cultural object and whether the transmedia experience can lead to a positive attitude toward transmedia platforms and the cultural object.

Scientific Literature Among Smoking and Respiratory System: Repercussion and Collaboration

2012

a b s t r a c t Aim: To analyze the distribution of the production, repercussion and co-authorship of articles on smok- ing in the "respiratory system" category through the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) and their inclusion in the first quartile of the Journal Citation Report (JCR). Methods: The literature search was performed in the SCI-E. Articles were selected for 2001-2010 for "respiratory system" using the descriptors "smok*" and "tobac*". Results: We found 1858 articles (ignoring collaboration) on the topic of smoking. The median number of published articles by five-year period was higher for the 2006-2010 period vs the 2001-2005 period; in contrast, the number of citations a…

Intervening in domestic violence : interprofessional collaboration among social and health care professionals and the police

2021

Encountering domestic violence victims, perpetrators and witnesses in the multiprofessional fields of health and social care and policing includes various challenges. Each professional group perceives domestic violence from its own perspective, linked to its position in the field, core tasks, institutional practices and organizational structures. In this study, we examine interprofessional collaboration among Finnish social and health care professionals and police officers, focusing on the practices and conceptions concerning domestic violence interventions. The data consists of 16 focus group interviews, involving a total of 67 interviewees from social and health care professions and the p…

The Strategic Scorecards - An instrumentation of the strategic management accounting : Exploration of a concept, instrumentation and results from a f…

2002

I describe in this study a generic model of strategic management accounting instrumentation: the strategic scorecards. In order to build this generic model, I review in the existing literature the concepts of Strategic Control and Strategic Management Accounting (SMA). I present the characteristics of these concepts and analyse the reasons why they emerged. I show how the strategic scorecards are an instrumentation of the SMA in studying the most widely known and esteemed scorecards: the Balanced Scorecards (Kaplan & Norton, 1996) and Skandia's Navigator (Edvinsson & Malone, 1997). I then clarify the outlines for a generic model of strategic scorecard and disclose an "a priori" typology of …
