Why Finnish polytechnics reject top applicants

I use a panel of higher education clearinghouse data to study the centralized assignment of applicants to Finnish polytechnics. Many top applicants remain completely unassigned each year. The same applicants' future applications reveal that many of them should have been admitted to a different program immediately. The application system, however, discourages applicants from applying to multiple programs within the same year, while at the same time leaving them in the dark on the set of programs willing to admit them. Improvements to the application system have the potential to substantially reduce reapplications, thereby shortening long queues into Finnish higher education. peerReviewed

Objectives: The aim of the present prospective clinical study was to evaluate the match between the positions and axes of the virtually planned and the placed implants using laboratory-based surgical guides generated from cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). INTRODUCTION In out-of-laboratory settings the surface EMG measurements are complicated by the requirement of careful electrode placement and skin preparation. The development of washable textile electrodes that can be sowed into sportswear enable muscle activity recordings during normal locomotion without skin preparation and the problem of wires hanging around the body [1]. In this study we performed validity, reliability and feasibility tests of the textile electrodes embedded into shorts against the traditional bipolar surface electrodes.

This paper deals with the issue of measurement device placement for load flow analysis in medium-voltage (MV) distribution networks. The study is carried out using an innovative measurement algorithm for load flow analysis developed by the authors. It is based on low-voltage (LV) load power measurements applied on a backward/forward algorithm for the load flow resolution.
