Input-Output Feedback Linearization Control with On-Line Inductances Estimation of Synchronous Reluctance Motors

2021

This paper proposes an adaptive input-output Feedback Linearization (FL) techniques for Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SynRM) drives, taking into consideration the iron losses. As a main original content, this work proposes a control law based on a new dynamic model of the SynRM including iron losses as well as the on-line estimation of the static inductances. The on-line estimation of the SynRM static inductances permits to inherently take into consideration the magnetic saturation phenomena occuring on both axes. The estimation law is obtained thanks to a Lyapunov-based analysis and thus the stability of the entire control system, including the estimation algorithm, is intrinsically guaran…

Comparison of different segmentation approaches without using gold standard. Application to the estimation of the left ventricle ejection fraction fr…

2011

International audience; A statistical method is proposed to compare several estimates of a relevant clinical parameter when no gold standard is available. The method is illustrated by considering the left ventricle ejection fraction derived from cardiac magnetic resonance images and computed using seven approaches with different degrees of automation. The proposed method did not use any a priori regarding with the reliability of each method and its degree of automation. The results showed that the most accurate estimates of the ejection fraction were obtained using manual segmentations, followed by the semiautomatic methods, while the methods with the least user input yielded the least accu…

IC3D Classification of Corneal Dystrophies—Edition 2

2015

To update the 2008 International Classification of Corneal Dystrophies (IC3D) incorporating new clinical, histopathologic, and genetic information. The IC3D reviewed worldwide peer-reviewed articles for new information on corneal dystrophies published between 2008 and 2014. Using this information, corneal dystrophy templates and anatomic classification were updated. New clinical, histopathologic, and confocal photographs were added. On the basis of revisiting the cellular origin of corneal dystrophy, a modified anatomic classification is proposed consisting of (1) epithelial and subepithelial dystrophies, (2) epithelial-stromal TGFBI dystrophies, (3) stromal dystrophies, and (4) endothelial d…

Immunological Effects of Allopurinol in the Treatment of Experimental Autoimmune Uveitis (EAU) after Onset of the Disease

2003

Purpose Allopurinol reduces oxidative tissue damage and exerts immunomodulating effects in the treatment of experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU). However, the mechanism of the immunologic pathway remains unclear. In previous studies, treatment was started at the time of immunization. Therefore, whether allopurinol prevents the onset of the disease (i.e., acts in a protective manner) is not known. Methods Sixteen male Lewis rats were used: 6 EAU without therapy [control]; 4 EAU with allopurinol treatment starting 7 days after immunization [AL7]; and 6 EAU with allopurinol treatment starting 11 days after immunization [AL11]. Their sera were tested against Western blots of sodium dodecyl sul…

Efferent connections of the "olfactostriatum": a specialized vomeronasal structure within the basal ganglia of snakes.

2005

Abstract The olfactostriatum is a portion of the basal ganglia of snakes that receives substantial vomeronasal afferents through projections from the nucleus sphericus. In a preceding article, the olfactostriatum of garter snakes (Thamnophis sirtalis) was characterized on the basis of chemoarchitecture (distribution of serotonin, neuropeptide Y and tyrosine hydroxylase) and pattern of afferent connections [Martinez-Marcos, A., Ubeda-Banon, I., Lanuza, E., Halpern, M., 2005. Chemoarchitecture and afferent connections of the “olfactostriatum”: a specialized vomeronasal structure within the basal ganglia of snakes. J. Chem. Neuroanat. 29, 49–69]. In the present study, its efferent connections …

Color Doppler Hemodynamics of Giant Cell Arteritis

1994

Objectives: To determine quantitative and qualitative hemodynamic alterations within the ophthalmic, central retinal, and short posterior ciliary arteries in patients with giant cell arteritis (GCA) proved by biopsy specimen. Design, Patients, and Setting: A consecutive case series of patients with GCA referred to an urban eye hospital who were evaluated with color Doppler imaging that was used to analyze orbital blood flow velocities and vascular resistance in 22 consecutive patients with GCA compared with age and sex-matched controls. Results: Patients with GCA all demonstrated significantly reduced central retinal and short posterior ciliary arterial mean flow velocities as well as signi…

Malignant teratoma in Klippel-Feil syndrome: a case report and review of the literature

2015

Introduction: Klippel-Feil syndrome is characterized by a congenital fusion of cervical vertebrae. Intracranial teratomas are nongerminomatous germ cell tumors and they account for 0.3 to 0.9% of all intracranial tumors. Teratomas with malignant transformation refer to lesions which give rise to malignant cancer of somatic type. The association between tumors of dermoid origin and Klippel-Feil malformation is extremely rare. Only 23 other cases have so far been reported, and only one case of dermoid tumor with areas of dedifferentiation on squamous cell carcinoma has been described. Case presentation: We report the case of a 72-year-old white man with a 2-year history of gait and balance di…

The role of right and left posterior parietal cortex in the modulation of spatial attentional biases by self and non-self face stimuli

2012

In the present research we investigated whether the direction of the attentional bias in line bisection judgment displayed by healthy subjects is influenced by the evaluation of the social distance between self and other. We used inhibitory repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) trains over the right and left parietal cortex to investigate the role of these regions in the task. Following right parietal rTMS, the self face is perceived as closer when it is located at the right line endpoint; following left parietal rTMS, the self face is perceived as closer when it is located at the left line endpoint. In both cases, the side of space ipsilateral to the rTMS is underestimated fr…

Surgical treatment of posterior fossa tumors in infancy and childhood: techniques and results

1993

In a collective of 72 children with tumors of the posterior fossa, the preoperative diagnosis, operation planning and performance, and use of additional procedures, like the preliminary ventricular drainage and interventriculostomy are described. The extent of intra- and postoperative complications is given. Postoperative lethality was 0% in the group operated on between 1979 and 1991. The responsible factors are discussed. The findings support the opinion of ALBRIGHT (1989) that the prognosis for such patients is most promising in the hands of a specialist in pediatric neurosurgery.

Odontoid process and clival regeneration with Chiari malformation worsening after transoral decompression: an unexpected and previously unreported ca…

2015

Purpose: Transoral odontoidectomy followed by occipito-cervical fixation is a widely used approach to relieve ventral compressions at the craniovertebral junction (CVJ). Despite the large amount of literature on this approach and its complications, no previous reports of odontoid process and clival regeneration following transoral odontoidectomy are present in the English literature. Methods: We report the case of odontoid process and clival regeneration following transoral odontoidectomy. Results: A 7-year-old boy presented with symptoms of brainstem and upper cervical spinal cord compression due to a complex malformation at the CVJ including a basilar invagination with Chiari malformation…
