Opening New Window in Upper Clival Region: Results from Anatomic Study.
2018
Considering its position located anteriorly to the brainstem, the retrosellar area, in particular the upper clival region and the interpeduncular cistern, is one of the most difficult regions to surgically approach. To date, many different operative solutions have been described, given that this region is attainable by both lateral and median approaches. Lateral routes include the frontolateral, subtemporal, and frontotemporozygomatic approaches with relative variants that have been extensively reported. Among the lateral approaches, the frontotemporozygomatic one is considered particularly useful because it allows better visualization of the retrosellar and suprasellar areas minimizing the…
Fallzahlplanung in referenzkontrollierten Diagnosestudien
2002
Purpose: A tutorial illustration of a flexible approach to determine the sample size in reference-controlled diagnostic trials. Materials and Methods: Assuming the usual setting of a new diagnostic method to be compared with a reference method, the emphasis is on the sensitivity of the new method in comparison with the reference method, using a binary outcome (positive versus negative) for both methods. Based on the confidence interval of the sensitivity, a simple but flexible procedure for determining the sample size is described, which incorporates clinically interpretable information. The procedure is illustrated by the fictious planning of a trial to assess the diagnostic value of MRI v…
Using recursive Bayesian estimation for matching GPS measurements to imperfect road network data
2010
Map-matching refers to the process of projecting positioning measurements to a location on a digital road network map. It is an important element of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) focusing on driver assistance applications, on emergency and incident management, arterial and freeway management, and other applications. This paper addresses the problem of map-matching in the applications characterized by imperfect map quality and restricted computational resources - e.g. in the context of community-based ITS applications. Whereas a number of map-matching methods are available, often these methods rely on topological analysis, thereby making them sensitive to the map inaccuracies. In …

Adaptive variable structure fuzzy neural identification and control for a class of MIMO nonlinear system
2013
This paper presents a novel adaptive variable structure (AVS) method to design a fuzzy neural network (FNN). This AVS-FNN is based on radial basis function (RBF) neurons, which have center and width vectors. The network performs sequential learning through sliding data window reflecting system dynamic changes, and dynamic growing-and-pruning structure of FNN. The salient characteristics of the AVS-FNN are as follows: (1) Structure-learning and parameters estimation are performed automatically and simultaneously without partitioning input space and selecting initial parameters a priori. The structure-learning approach relies on the contribution of the size of the output. (2) A set of fuzzy r…
Glaucomatous Maculopathy: Thickness Differences on Inner and Outer Macular Layers between Ocular Hypertension and Early Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma U…
2020
The purpose of this study was to compare the thickness of all inner and outer macular layers between ocular hypertension (OHT) and early primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) 8 × 8 posterior pole algorithm (8 × 8 PPA). Fifty-seven eyes of 57 OHT individuals and fifty-seven eyes of 57 early POAG patients were included. The thickness of macular retinal nerve fiber layer (mRNFL), ganglion cell layer (GCL), inner plexiform layer (IPL), inner nuclear layer (INL), outer plexiform and nuclear layer, photoreceptor layer (PRL) and retinal pigment epithelium were obtained in 64 cells for each macular layer and mean thickness of superior and inf…
Evaluation of MRI and cannabinoid type 1 receptor PET templates constructed using DARTEL for spatial normalization of rat brains
2015
Purpose: Image registration is one prerequisite for the analysis of brain regions in magnetic-resonance-imaging (MRI) or positron-emission-tomography (PET) studies. Diffeomorphic anatomical registration through exponentiated Lie algebra (DARTEL) is a nonlinear, diffeomorphic algorithm for image registration and construction of image templates. The goal of this small animal study was (1) the evaluation of a MRI and calculation of several cannabinoid type 1 (CB1) receptor PET templates constructed using DARTEL and (2) the analysis of the image registration accuracy of MR and PET images to their DARTEL templates with reference to analytical and iterative PET reconstruction algorithms. Methods:…
Composite femoro-tibial bypass as alternative solution in complicated revascolarization: Case report
2021
Introduction Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) in diabetic patients is a significant cause of Morbility. Long arterial occlusion in patient previously treated can require unusual and complex solution. Herein we report a case of complicated bypass in diabetic patient with history of bypass for bilateral popliteal aneurysm. Presentation of case A 51-year-old male, smoker, with hypertension and diabetes mellitus was referred to our hospital for rest pain in left limb and peripheral cyanosis. Ultrasound doppler (US) showed an occlusion after common femoral artery with patency of Anterior-tibial artery (ATA) two centimeters after the origin. The unavailability of adequate autologous conduit nece…
