Factors Affecting Digital Tool Use in Client Interaction According to Mental Health Professionals : Interview Study
2023
Background: Digital tools and interventions are being increasingly developed in response to the growing mental health crisis, and mental health professionals (MHPs) considerably influence their adoption in client practice. However, how MHPs use digital tools in client interaction is yet to be sufficiently understood, which poses challenges to their design, development, and implementation. Objective: This study aimed to create a contextual understanding of how MHPs use different digital tools in clinical client practice and what characterizes the use across tools. Methods: A total of 19 Finnish MHPs participated in semistructured interviews, and the data were transcribed, coded, and inductiv…
Longitudinal analysis of Spanish doctoral theses in education (1841-2012)
2014
This article analyzes the research output of doctoral theses in the field of Education defended in Spain from 1841-2012. It offers a quantified global and diachronic view of such series. As a landmark to note is the fact that until 1954, obtaining a doctoral degree was centralized at the Complutense University of Madrid. They are used as search engines bibliographic databases: TESEO and institutional repositories, and basic bibliography of the area to carry out the collection of the sample. The contrasting hypothesis is to verify whether the time series partially follows the pattern of growth of the science of Derek J. de Solla Price. The central finding is that the Spanish production of do…
Trust and team identification at multicultural workplaces : perceptions of Finnish HR professionals
2017
Growing global mobility has rapidly diversified workplace demographics across the world. Finland that has traditionally been considered a relatively uniform nation in terms of cultural and ethnic diversity has also experienced a shift in its population in recent decades. Despite the growing multiculturalism, established diversity management practices are yet to be developed in many Finnish organizations, and the subject has not gained much academic attention either. Still, competent intercultural leaders are often vital for both successful business results and for the well-being of their multicultural teams. The aim of this thesis is to shed light on the current state of international human…
A Pilot Study on Developing Newsgames in Collaboration between Journalism and Computer Science Students
2019
Abstract Producing digital and interactive journalistic products offers unique and important new learning opportunities for journalism education. This study analysed the experiences of two pilot courses on so-called ‘newsgames’ in a Finnish university in 2015 and 2017. The data consisted of the newsgames and other materials produced by the students, student feedback concerning the course and observations of teachers throughout the project. Our analysis demonstrates how producing newsgames in the context of higher education may foster project-based learning experiences, something that has been relatively rare in traditional journalism education. Collaboration with media companies also offere…

The Role of Parental Beliefs and Practices in Children's Motivation In The Changing World
2019
The role of parental involvement in their child’s education and academic success has been widely acknowledged in recent educational theories, policies, and practices. Parental beliefs and expectations concerning their child’s learning and success have been shown to be reflected in the parents’ involvement in their child’s education and their practices with their offspring, thereby shaping the child’s motivational development in school. In addition, parental trust in their child’s teacher is a key factor in enhancing the home–school partnership and in supporting a child’s academic motivation and successful schooling. However, political, economical, and technological changes in society and un…
Training and motivation in childhood and adolescence in Finnish elite footballers at different phases of their athletic careers
2021
This study retrospectively explored 1) early specialization and hours of training in childhood and adolescence and 2) the interrelations of different types of motivation in four samples of elite male footballers in different phases of their athletic careers (N=91): Finnish first-tier players (n=23), youth national team players (U19 and U21; n=33), national team players (n=22), and Finland’s so-called Golden Generation players of the 1990s and 2000s (n=13). For this study, the Golden Generation was defined by FAF as footballers who had played at least ten official World cup or European championship qualifying games between the years 1996‒2008 and played in international top leagues during th…
Prosessiteoreettinen näkökulma, joka selittää henkilökohtaisen tietokoneen käyttöön liittyvää tietoturvakäyttäytymisen muutosta
2016
IS security behavior has become a mainstream topic in information systems. Extent research is dominated with the viewpoint for discovery of generic and stable predictors. The viewpoint rests on the implicit assumption that information security behavior can be explained by discovering these factors. The best know examples are IS security behavior models grounded upon Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) and the Deterrence Theory (DT). The success of this perspective hinges on the question as to what extend the IS security behavior and the reasons for it, are constant from time to time and from one specific security situation to another. The viewpoint is successful if computer users have built …
Imagery ability and imagery use in individual and team sports
2014
The purpose of this research was to examine whether individual and team sport athletes differ in their imagery use and imagery ability, and to examine whether level of sport participation or weekly sport involvement are variables that differentiate between athletes on the basis of their levels of imagery ability and imagery use. Two measures were conducted. The Sport Imagery Ability Measure (SIAM) is a 48-item self-report measure that uses four sport related scenes to examine the dimensional, sensorial, and emotional characteristics of generating images. The Sport Imagery Questionnaire (SIQ) is a 30-item self-report measure that examines five characteristics associated with the cognitive an…
The effect of transient visual deprivation on motor cortical excitability and motor learning : a pilot study
2016
Castro, Fabio, 2015. The Effect of Transient Visual Deprivation on Motor Cortical Excitability and Motor Learning. University of Jyväskylä, Department of Biology of Physical Activity, Master Thesis in Applied Biomechanics. 86 pp. We devised an experimental protocol to test the hypothesis that if the performer poses attention on the proprioceptive signals, in the form of awareness of the body in space, this could increase the corticospinal excitability and the overall performance. 10 right-handed volunteers were randomly assigned to either a group performing a skill training blindfolded (BLIND) or in normal (NORM) condition. The intervention included a visuomotor task-related skill training …
