A Musical Pattern Discovery System Founded on a Modeling of Listening Strategies

2004

Music is a domain of expression that conveys a paramount degree of complexity. The musical surface, composed of a multitude of notes, results from the elaboration of numerous structures of different types and sizes. The composer constructs this structural complexity in a more or less explicit way. The listener, faced by such a complex phenomenon, is able to reconstruct only a limited part of it, mostly in a non-explicit way. One particular aim of music analysis is to objectify such complexity, thus offering to the listener a tool for enriching the appreciation of music (Lartillot and SaintJames, 2004). The trouble is, traditional musical analysis, although offering a valuable understanding …

Depression Assessment by Fusing High and Low Level Features from Audio, Video, and Text

2016

International audience; Depression is a major cause of disability world-wide. The present paper reports on the results of our participation to the depression sub-challenge of the sixth Audio/Visual Emotion Challenge (AVEC 2016), which was designed to compare feature modalities ( audio, visual, interview transcript-based) in gender-based and gender-independent modes using a variety of classification algorithms. In our approach, both high and low level features were assessed in each modality. Audio features were extracted from the low-level descriptors provided by the challenge organizers. Several visual features were extracted and assessed including dynamic characteristics of facial elements…

Uncalibrated Reconstruction: An Adaptation to Structured Light Vision

2003

Abstract Euclidean reconstruction from two uncalibrated stereoscopic views is achievable from the knowledge of geometrical constraints about the environment. Unfortunately, these constraints may be quite difficult to obtain. In this paper, we propose an approach based on structured lighting, which has the advantage of providing geometrical constraints independent of the scene geometry. Moreover, the use of structured light provides a unique solution to the tricky correspondence problem present in stereovision. The projection matrices are first computed by using a canonical representation, and a projective reconstruction is performed. Then, several constraints are generated from the image an…

Toward morphological thoracic EIT: major signal sources correspond to respective organ locations in CT.

2012

Lung and cardiovascular monitoring applications of electrical impedance tomography (EIT) require localization of relevant functional structures or organs of interest within the reconstructed images. We describe an algorithm for automatic detection of heart and lung regions in a time series of EIT images. Using EIT reconstruction based on anatomical models, candidate regions are identified in the frequency domain and image-based classification techniques applied. The algorithm was validated on a set of simultaneously recorded EIT and CT data in pigs. In all cases, identified regions in EIT images corresponded to those manually segmented in the matched CT image. Results demonstrate the abilit…

Visual knowledge processing in computer-assisted radiology: A consultation system

1992

This paper presents Visual Heuristics, a consultation system for diagnosis based on thorax radiograph recording. Visual Heuristics uses both prototypical representations of physiological and pathological states and reasoning aimed to infer conclusions from pathological or physiological conditions, establishing correspondences between pathological or physiological states and semantic descriptions of images. Images are assembled with groups of descriptors that guide the recognition process, achieving the possibility of comparisons with real images on the basis of 'expected' images. The system may be employed to generate a dynamic atlas that does not contain proper images, but generates them.

Grammars++ for modelling information in text

1999

Abstract Grammars provide a convenient means to describe the set of valid instances in a text database. Flexibility in choosing a grammar can be exploited to provide information modelling capability by designing productions in the grammar to represent entities and relationships of interest to database applications. Additional constraints can be specified by attaching predicates to selected nonterminals in the grammar. When used for database definition, grammars can provide the functionality that users have come to expect of database schemas. Extended grammars can also be used to specify database manipulation, including query, update, view definition, and index specification.

Non-speech voice for sonic interaction: a catalogue

2016

This paper surveys the uses of non-speech voice as an interaction modality within sonic applications. Three main contexts of use have been identified: sound retrieval, sound synthesis and control, and sound design. An overview of different choices and techniques regarding the style of interaction, the selection of vocal features and their mapping to sound features or controls is here displayed. A comprehensive collection of examples instantiates the use of non-speech voice in actual tools for sonic interaction. It is pointed out that while voice-based techniques are already being used proficiently in sound retrieval and sound synthesis, their use in sound design is still at an exploratory p…

A Cluster based Sensor-Selection Scheme for Energy-Efficient Agriculture Sensor Networks

2021

Improving the energy-efficiency of remotely deployed sensor nodes in agriculture wireless networks is very challenging due to a lack of access to energy grid. Network clustering and limiting the amount of sensor data are among the various methods to improve the lifetime of these sensor nodes. In this work, an optimal sensor-selection scheme is proposed to improve the Quality of Service in clustered agriculture networks. the proposed method selects a limited number of sensor nodes to be active in each cluster. It considers the estimator performance while selecting limited sensor nodes for environmental monitoring. the optimal sensor-selection process considers the information of remaining en…

Tracking Hands in Interaction with Objects: A Review

2017

Markerless vision-based 3D hand motion tracking is a key and popular component for interaction studies in many domains such as virtual reality and natural human-computer interfaces. While this research field has been well studied in the last decades, most approaches have considered the human hand in isolation and not in action or in interaction with the environment or the other articulated human body parts. Employing contextual information about the surrounding environment (e.g. the shape, the texture, and the posture of the object in the hand) can remarkably constrain the tracking problem. The goal of this survey is to develop an up-to-date taxonomy of existing vision-based hand tracking m…
