Nonmagnetic and magnetic thiolate-protected Au25superatoms on Cu(111), Ag(111), and Au(111) surfaces

Geometry, electronic structure, and magnetic properties of methylthiolate-stabilized Au$_{25}$L$_{18}$ and MnAu$_{24}$L$_{18}$ (L = SCH$_3$) clusters adsorbed on noble-metal (111) surfaces have been investigated by using spin-polarized density functional theory computations. The interaction between the cluster and the surface is found to be mediated by charge transfer mainly from or into the ligand monolayer. The electronic properties of the 13-atom metal core remain in all cases rather undisturbed as compared to the isolated clusters in gas phase. The Au$_{25}$L$_{18}$ cluster retains a clear HOMO - LUMO energy gap in the range of 0.7 eV to 1.0 eV depending on the surface. The ligand layer…
Possible mechanism of energy storage in optically stimulable materials: doped alkali halides

Radiation-induced effects in doped alkali halides, mainly in KBr:In, are studied by the luminescence technique. The activator luminescence during a 10 s under UV-light or electron irradiation and, after it, the pulsed photostimulated luminescence on a phosphorescence background were investigated. The obtained results allow us to conclude that the main host lattice excitation relevant to both the luminescence processes mentioned above is a very mobile excitonic excitation including a photon phase and the self- trapped exciton in its composition. A simple method for filtering pump fluid vapors from circulated helium

Abstract A simple efficient ceramic filter has been introduced for separation of oil vapors from circulated helium. Oil vapors were observed to pass easily through standard cold-trap and zeolite filters. They behave in these filters in the same way as “carrier fragments” behave in the helium-jet recoil-transport method. The significance of this observation is discussed.

This paper provides an overview of numerical methods in order to solve fuzzy equations (FEs). It focuses on different numerical methodologies to solve FEs, dual fuzzy equations (DFEs), fuzzy differential equations (FDEs) and partial fuzzy differential equations (PFDEs). The solutions which are produced by these equations are taken to be the controllers. This paper also analyzes the existence of the roots of FEs and some important implementation problems. Finally, several examples are reviewed with different methods.

Using electric fields to prevent mirror-trapped antiprotons in antihydrogen studies

The signature of trapped antihydrogen ($\overline{\mathrm{H}}$) atoms is the annihilation signal detected when the magnetic trap that confines the atoms is suddenly switched off. This signal would be difficult to distinguish from the annihilation signal of any trapped $\overline{p}$ that is released when the magnetic trap is switched off. This work deduces the large cyclotron energy ($g$137 eV) required for magnetic trapping of $\overline{p}$, considers the possibility that such $\overline{p}$ are produced, and explores the effectiveness of an electric field applied to clear charged particles from the trapping volume before $\overline{\mathrm{H}}$ detection. Tunable and reconfigurable microwave filter by use of a Bragg-grating-based acousto-optic superlattice modulator

We present an all-optical novel configuration for implementing multitap transversal filters by use of a broadband source sliced by fiber Bragg grating arrays generated by propagating an acoustic wave along a strong uniform fiber Bragg grating. The tunability and reconfigurability of the microwave filter are demonstrated.

This task has been garnering significant attention recently as it has been shown to help improve the performance of many natural language processing applications. Dynamic preparation of TiO2 films for fabrication of dye-sensitized solar cells

Preparation of nanocrystalline porous titanium dioxide (TiO2) films with roll-to-roll compatible methods was studied. Gravure printing was used for spreading TiO2 paste and paper calendering for pressing TiO2 nanoparticle films. Influence of different preparation methods on performance of fabricated dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) was investigated. The attained light into electricity conversion efficiency was compared with DSSCs fabricated on conductive plastic substrates by doctor-blading spreading with subsequent static pressing. The latter method achieved a light conversion efficiency as high as 5.1%. The efficiency of the cells with a gravure printed TiO2 film was found to be rather …
