Understanding of Teachers and Healthcare Professionals about their Professional Development

2021

Changes in technology use and globalization are leading to significant changes in the structure of the labor market, emphasizing the need for labor market participants to learn continuously and acquire new knowledge and skills in order to adapt to a rapidly changing work environment. Economists point to the risks posed by technological development, such as the reduction of low-skilled jobs as a result of digitalization and automation processes. Although professionals working with people, such as healthcare professionals and teachers, are less exposed to the risk of automation, they are still increasingly unstable as technology and artificial intelligence compete with human experts.

Diverse histories, common ground and a shared future:the education of career guidance and counselling professionals in the Nordic countries

2019

The development of education programmes in career guidance and counseling (CGC) has followed different paths among the various Nordic countries. Ten CGC programmes in Denmark, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden were evaluated against the NICE curricular model. The results show that all NICE core competences are represented in the curricula. However, there is greater focus in some programmes on developing competences for individual career guidance, than on developing competences for working at organisational and societal levels. Implications for the cooperation and professionalisation of CGC within the Nordic countries are discussed as well as limitations of the NICE model. Keywo…

Inter-agency work in Open Dialogue: the significance of listening and authenticity

2014

The article explores what professionals regard as important skills and attitudes for generating inter-agency network meetings involving intra- and interprofessonal work. More specifically, we will examine what they understand as promoting or impeding dialogue and how this is related to their professional backgrounds. The professionals participated in a project using an open dialogue approach in order to increase the use of inter-agency network meetings with young people suffering from mental health problems. In this explorative case study, empirical data was collected through interviews conducted with two focus groups, the first comprising healthcare professionals and the second professiona…

paisaje sonoro y visual como recurso educativo para la formación del profesorado

2023

The results of research on the didactic usefulness of the visual and sound landscape developed at the Teacher Training Faculty of the University of Valencia are shown. Following a mixed methodology with qualitative and quantitative questionnaires, the concept that future teachers have of agricultural landscapes and their possibilities as an educational resource is analysed. The sample consisted of 146 teachers in training for the Primary School Teacher Degree. The results show that sound and visual landscapes improve the understanding of natural phenomena from an interdisciplinary approach and promote the teachers' competence development. Keypoints to Successful Newborn Hearing Screening. Thirty Years of Experience and Innovations

2021

Congenital deafness is a major pediatric problem, affecting about 1.5–3 per 1000 newborns. The early treatment through cochlear implantation and auditory rehabilitation has been a historic milestone. Early diagnosis of congenital deafness is an essential requirement to obtain the best results, which is achieved through neonatal screening, a diagnostic practice that we began systematically at the Hospital Clínico in Valencia (Spain) 30 years ago. Neonatal hearing screening is successful in most developed countries. Its implementation has been slow due to the multiple difficulties that its universal application entails since it involves several health professionals and must be carried out, in…

“Symptoms associated with environmental factors” (SAEF) – Towards a paradigm shift regarding “idiopathic environmental intolerance” and related pheno…

2020

Health conditions characterized by symptoms associated with chemical, physical and biological environmental factors unrelated to objectifiable pathophysiological mechanisms are often labelled by the general term “idiopathic environmental intolerances”. More specific, exposure-related terms are also used, e.g. “multiple chemical sensitivities”, “electromagnetic hypersensitivity” and “candidiasis hypersensitivity”. The prevalence of the conditions varies from a few up to more than 50%, depending on definitions and populations. Based on evolving knowledge within this field, we provide arguments for a paradigm shift from terms focusing on exposure and intolerance/(hyper-)sensitivity towards a t…

2019 ESC Guidelines for the diagnosis and management of acute pulmonary embolism developed in collaboration with the European Respiratory Society (ER…

2020

Guidelines summarize and evaluate available evidence with the aim of assisting health professionals in proposing the best management strategies for an individual patient with a given condition. Guidelines and their recommendations should facilitate decision making of health professionals in their daily practice. However, the final decisions concerning an individual patient must be made by the responsible health professional(s) in consultation with the patient and caregiver as appropriate.

Knowledge of alpha-1 deficiency and primary ciliary dyskinesia by medical students and health professionals

2016

Background: Under-diagnosis and delayed diagnosis are common features in rare diseases, which have negative effects on the patients9 prognosis. A possible explanation could be lack of awareness and education of the health professionals involved in the managements of these patients. Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) and primary ciliary dyskinesia (DCP) are under-diagnosed rare diseases showing a median diagnosis delay of five to ten years. Methods: A survey was undertaken in paediatricians (general, paediatric pulmonologists and paediatric gastroenterologist) and medical school students to assess their knowledge on AATD and PCD. Results: A total of 624 surveys on AATD and 457 on PCD were…

Responsive and Minimalist App Based on Explainable AI to Assess Palliative Care Needs during Bedside Consultations on Older Patients

2021

[EN] Palliative care is an alternative to standard care for gravely ill patients that has demonstrated many clinical benefits in cost-effective interventions. It is expected to grow in demand soon, so it is necessary to detect those patients who may benefit from these programs using a personalised objective criterion at the correct time. Our goal was to develop a responsive and minimalist web application embedding a 1-year mortality explainable predictive model to assess palliative care at bedside consultation. A 1-year mortality predictive model has been trained. We ranked the input variables and evaluated models with an increasing number of variables. We selected the model with the seven …
