Experiences with the integration of protocol software tools

1996

An analysis of a number of protocol software tools that are widely used in the development of communication protocols in the Finnish telecommunications industry is presented. To analyse the integrated use of these tools, a non-trivial application layer protocol with ACSE, ROSE and a simple presentation layer has been designed and implemented with the help of these software tools. Particular attention has been paid to compose a complete protocol implementation from the fragments produced with separate tools. Our observations clearly indicate that this integration is a major problem with the current practices.

Andamento stagionale del flusso di emissione di CO2 dal suolo in risposta al contenuto di umidità all'interno di un agroecosistema mediterraneo

2014

Total soil respiration as the sum of two biotic component, autotrophic and heterotrophic respiration, is influenced by various environmental factor, in particular soil temperature and soil moisture. In arid and semi arid regions, soil moisture is a major driver of soil respiration during periods of drought stress. Hence, the aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of soil moisture on soil CO2 efflux. Measurements were made every two weeks between January 2008 and June 2010 using a portable soil respiration instrument fitted with a soil respiration chamber (IRGA) CIRAS 1 (PP Systems, Hitchin, UK).The Simultaneously with soil respiration measurements, soil temperature (T) and soil volumetri…

Assessing Field and Laboratory Calibration Protocols for the Diviner 2000 Probe in a Range of Soils with Different Textures

2016

Frequency domain reflectometry (FDR) downhole sensors have been increasingly used for soil moisture field monitoring because they allow measurement, even continuously, along a soil profile. Moreover, they can also be installed with minimal soil disturbance around the access tube. The objectives of the paper were to assess the field and laboratory calibration protocols for a FDR capacitance probe (Diviner 2000) for a range of soils characterized by different particle size distributions and shrink/swell potential and to propose a practical and effective protocol on the basis of undisturbed soil samples, accounting for soil shrinkage/swelling processes characterizing swelling clay soils. The e…

2MOLCAS as a development platform for quantum chemistry software

2004

This work presents the quantum chemistry package MOLCAS, with emphasis on its usefulness as a platform for developing new quantum chemical codes, and the reader is assumed to be familiar with such a process. The development of new codes for quantum chemistry is a time-consuming job that can be dramatically simplified by using libraries for standard problems (such as calculation of integrals), and tools to surmount computer language and operating system limitations. The MOLCAS quantum chemistry software contains modules for a variety of quantum chemical methods, such as Hartree-Fock (HF), density functional theory (DFT), coupled-cluster (CC), and multiconfigurational (MCSCF) approaches, incl…

Transnational Struggle for Recognition: Axel Honneth on the Embodied Dignity of Stateless Persons

2021

In the last 15 years, scholars have increasingly applied Axel Honneth’s recognition theory to global issues such as justice, poverty, solidarity, peace, cosmopolitanism, and climate change. UNHCR estimates that there are currently 12 million stateless people worldwide. Their citizenship rights and human rights are mis-recognized. As humans, their human rights and human dignity should be protected. However, this requires being a citizen of a state, which, by definition, excludes stateless people. Although representing a fairly large group among today’s irregular migrants, within the above Honneth scholarship, statelessness is seldom investigated. And if being explored, the primary focus is r…

A service-oriented routing scheme with load balancing in wireless mesh networks

2008

Wireless mesh networks will play an important role in the next-generation wireless communication systems as it can provide wide coverage and scalable broadband Internet access services. However, congestion in such networks may lead to throughput degradation, packet loss and longer transmission delay. Therefore, routing and traffic forwarding schemes which are aware of the congestion status of a wireless network can efficiently improve network performance. In this paper, we propose a new congestion-aware routing scheme which may direct different paths for different services types, according to network congestion status. The goal of this routing scheme is to use traffic load metric for choosi…

An Efficient Implementation of Distributed Routing Algorithms for NoCs

2008

The design of NoCs for multi-core chips introduces new design constraints like power consumption, area, and ultra low latencies. Although 2D meshes are preferred, heterogeneous blocks, fabrication faults, reliability issues, and chip virtualization may lead to the need of irregular topologies or regions. In this situation, efficient routing becomes a challenge. Although the use of routing tables at switches is flexible, it does not scale in terms of latency and area due to its memory requirements. LBDR (logic-based distributed routing) is proposed as a new routing method that removes the need of using routing tables at all. LBDR enables the implementation of many routing algorithms on most …

Circuit-Elimination based Link-State Routing in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks

2007

Circuit-elimination based connected dominating set formation is an efficient technique for reducing routing overhead in mobile ad hoc networks. In this paper, we propose a new message dissemination algorithm which utilizes such techniques to reduce the number of nodes that generate or forward link state advertisements in link state routing protocols. Simulation results with both static and dynamic network topologies demonstrate the potential of the proposed algorithm to reduce routing overhead, compared with a benchmark link state routing protocol, OLSR.

Using R via PHP for Teaching Purposes: R-php

2006

This paper deals with the R-php statistical software, that is an environment for statistical analysis, freely accessible and attainable through the World Wide Web, based on R. Indeed, this software uses, as "engine" for statistical analyses, R via PHP and its design has been inspired by a paper of de Leeuw (1997). R-php is based on two modules: a base module and a point-and-click module. R-php base allows the simple editing of R code in a form. R-php point-and-click allows some statistical analyses by means of a graphical user interface (GUI): then, to use this module it is not necessary for the user to know the R environment, but all the allowed analyses can be performed by using the compu…

Surgical treatment of solitary sternal metastasis from breast cancer Case report

2016

Bone metastasis is a frequent and early complication of breast cancer. This case report describes a technique for a partial exeresis of the sternum and the reconstruction of the pleura with autologous dermis from the lower abdomen and the loss of substance with a myocutaneous flap.We describe the case of a 50-year old woman with a sternal excavated lesion with pathologic fracture due to an invasive adenocarcinoma, treated with a partial exeresis of the sternum and the reconstruction with a myocutaneous flap. The patient doesn't show evidence of recurrent disease and the stability of her chest well preserved.Metastatic breast cancer to the sternum, if detected early and treated aggressively, …
