Learning Psychology and becoming psychologists: developing professional identity through group experiential learning

2017

International audience; n this paper, we describe the advantages of an experiential training group, specifically conceived for psychology students, in which the goal was to activate reflection on the internalized social representations of professional identity. Our study showed the results of a pre-post comparison of a one-group intervention. It was aimed to demonstrate that group experiential learning is particularly useful in changing the basis of social representations and may contribute to the construction of a realistic image of both the profession and the professional identity. Coping Styles and Social Support in Emergency Workers: Family as a Resource

2015

The nature of the job of people working in emergency situations is such that they may experience high levels of stress. With the term ‘emergency’, we refer to macroscopic events (floods, earthquakes) but also to micro-emergencies, that are more frequent events like accidents and acts of violence. Therefore, the aim of this approach is to help to prevent, or to overcome, the psychic phenomenon that occurs in the victims after a traumatic event that is unexpected and upsetting. In disaster and emergency scenarios, empirical data shows that an effective intervention is able to activate pro-social behaviours, based on social relations and norms; but for emergency workers there are several dange…

Intersex condition and the construction of gender identity.

2015

Intersexuality is conceptualized as a disorder of sexual development (DSD), which includes congenital conditions associated with atypical chromosomal, gonadic and anatomic sexual development. DSD can be diagnosed at birth as a result of observation of ambiguous genitalia, or, in adolescence, if sexual development diverges from the assigned gender. Some DSD can only be recognized in adulthood as a consequence of reproductive difficulties. In children and adolescents with DSD, gender identity is strongly influenced by atypical sexual development. The comparison between two management models of DSD, the optimal gender policy and a holistic perspective focused on the individual, highlighted the…
