Environmental stress is a major driver of ecological and evolutionary processes in nature. To cope with stress, organisms can adjust through phenotypic plasticity and/or adapt through genetic change. Here, we compared short-term behavioural (activity) and physiological (corticosterone levels, CORT) responses of Rana arvalis tadpoles from two divergent populations (acid origin, AOP, versus neutral origin, NOP) to acid and predator stress. Il saggio riflette sul fondamento dell'obbligazione morale cercando di mostrare perché essa possa intendersi come vincolo di gratuità. Si prende avvio dalla nozione tomista di legge morale naturale, approfondendo il suo significato nell'orizzonte della razionalità pratica e concentrando l'attenzione sulle implicazioni del principio "bonum faciendum". Emerge come l'uomo sia chiamato a lasciarsi appartenere ad una logica di gratuità che innerva l'actus essendi secondo un intimo convenire del finalismo ontologico e del bene come ricchezza auto-diffusiva.

Human Papillomavirus Types 16, 18, and 31 Share Similar Endocytic Requirements for Entry

ABSTRACT Human papillomavirus type 18 (HPV18), one of the HPVs with malignant potential, enters cells by an unknown endocytic mechanism. The key cellular requirements for HPV18 endocytosis were tested in comparison to those for HPV16 and -31 endocytoses. HPV18 (like HPV16 and -31) entry was independent of clathrin, caveolin, dynamin, and lipid rafts but required actin polymerization and tetraspanin CD151, and the viruses were routed to the same LAMP-1-positive compartment. Hence, the viruses shared similar cellular requirements for endocytic entry.

Stochastic seismic analysis of MDOF structures with viscous damper devices

Fluid damper devices in civil structures such as buildings or bridges are commonly used as energy absorbers for seismic protection. The problem in the response analysis of structures with filled dampers mainly consists in the fact that, due to the strongly nonlinear behavior of such equipments, the response spectrum technique fails. In this paper by using the concept of power spectral density function compatible with the elastic response spectrum and the stochastic linearization technique, the equivalent damping ratio is obtained.
