Visual knowledge processing in computer-assisted radiology: A consultation system
1992
This paper presents Visual Heuristics, a consultation system for diagnosis based on thorax radiograph recording. Visual Heuristics uses both prototypical representations of physiological and pathological states and reasoning aimed to infer conclusions from pathological or physiological conditions, establishing correspondences between pathological or physiological states and semantic descriptions of images. Images are assembled with groups of descriptors that guide the recognition process, achieving the possibility of comparisons with real images on the basis of 'expected' images. The system may be employed to generate a dynamic atlas that does not contain proper images, but generates them.
Is periapical surgery follow-up with only two-dimensional radiographs reliable? A retrospective cohort type sensitivity study
2021
Background Two-dimensional (2D) radiographic techniques are commonly used for assessing lesion prognosis after endodontic surgery. The present retrospective cohort study analyzes the sensitivity and ability of different radiographic techniques in obtaining area and volume measurements of periapical lesions. Material and Methods Preoperative and follow-up (6-48 months) periapical and panoramic radiographs (index test) and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images (reference standard) were selected from an endodontic microsurgery database. Sensitivity was analyzed independently by two examiners. The areas of the 2D radiographic images and CBCT volumes were studied using Itk-Snap software an…
State of the art and clinical recommendations in periapical implant lesions. 9th Mozo-Grau Ticare Conference in Quintanilla, Spain.
2016
This manuscript summarizes the statements and clinical recommendations in periapical implant lesions, as per the state of the art and expert opinion agreement among the participants in the 9th Mozo-Grau Conference 2016 held in Quintanilla (Valladolid, Spain). The current status of the concept, frequency, etiology, diagnosis, clinical classification, surgical procedure and prognosis are described. If following implant placement localized pain develops in the periapical area, with or without radiographic changes, the diagnosis of periapical implant lesion should be suspected. It is important to monitor the condition in order to identify any change in its evolution. Radiological changes in the…
Contrast perception in digitized panoramic radiographs compared with their film-based origin
2002
Abstract Objectives. We sought to compare the visual image quality of film-based and digitized panoramic radiographs through use of a hole-containing test wedge. Study Design. An aluminum wedge containing 100 cells, of which 90 were given shallow holes, was exposed in the film-based Orthophos CD panoramic unit. Two radiographs subjectively exhibiting optimum contrast were selected. Films were digitized with a charge-coupled device flatbed scanner at 300 dpi. Films and digitized images were rated cellwise by 2 similar groups of 50 observers each with respect to spot perception. Results. The mean sensitivity was 0.26 ± 0.09 for film and 0.20 ± 0.07 for digitized images (P =.000), with a prono…
Malignes fibröses Histiozytom
1988
Malignant fibrous histiozytoma (MHF) is a pleomorphic sarcoma of ubiquituous origin. The clinical and radiological features of the tumor are illustrated by 23 patients with MFH of soft tissue and 4 MFH of bone. On conventional radiography MFH appears as a soft tissue tumor, sometimes with bone involvement; on sonography it is usually non-homogeneous and hypoechogenic with areas of necrosis. On CT the masses are homogeneous or inhomogeneous (10-60 HU.) containing areas of decreased density. Contrast enhancement was about 10-20 HU. Angiographically the tumor appears as hypo- or hypervascular with pathologic vessels. The morphology of MFH in diagnostic imaging including magnetic resonance tomo…
Role of ambient light in the detection of contrast elements in digital dental radiography.
2018
Objective This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different ambient light levels on observer detection of small contrast differences in a contrast phantom by using a high-end liquid crystal display (LCD) monitor. Study Design An aluminum step wedge was converted into a contrast phantom by the addition of bore holes. Radiographic images of the contrast elements were presented to 20 observers. Images were displayed in random order under different ambient light levels (0, 50, 200, and 500 lux) twice, and the observers had to determine if contrast elements were visible. Sensitivity and specificity were determined to calculate areas under receiver operating characteristic curves and Friedmann…
Digital diagnosis records in orthodontics. An overview.
2006
Digital technology is becoming day by day a more important procedure in…
MHT-X: Offline Multiple Hypothesis Tracking with Algorithm X
2021
An efficient and versatile implementation of offline multiple hypothesis tracking with Algorithm X for optimal association search was developed using Python. The code is intended for scientific applications that do not require online processing. Directed graph framework is used and multiple scans with progressively increasing time window width are used for edge construction for maximum likelihood trajectories. The current version of the code was developed for applications in multiphase hydrodynamics, e.g. bubble and particle tracking, and is capable of resolving object motion, merges and splits. Feasible object associations and trajectory graph edge likelihoods are determined using weak mas…
