Resonant Kelvin-Helmholtz modes in sheared relativistic flows

2007

Qualitatively new aspects of the (linear and non-linear) stability of sheared relativistic (slab) jets are analyzed. The linear problem has been solved for a wide range of jet models well inside the ultrarelativistic domain (flow Lorentz factors up to 20; specific internal energies $\approx 60c^2$). As a distinct feature of our work, we have combined the analytical linear approach with high-resolution relativistic hydrodynamical simulations, which has allowed us i) to identify, in the linear regime, resonant modes specific to the relativistic shear layer ii) to confirm the result of the linear analysis with numerical simulations and, iii) more interestingly, to follow the instability develo…

Oscillations of a highly discrete breather with a critical regime

2000

We analyze carefully the essential features of the dynamics of a stationary discrete breather in the ultimate degree of energy localization in a nonlinear Klein-Gordon lattice with an on-site double-well potential. We demonstrate the existence of three different regimes of oscillatory motion in the breather dynamics, which are closely related to the motion of the central particle in an effective potential having two nondegenerate wells. In given parameter regions, we observe an untrapped regime, in which the central particle executes large-amplitude oscillations from one to the other side of the potential barrier. In other parameter regions, we find the trapped regime, in which the central …

Memory effects in the relaxation of the Gaussian trap model

2011

We investigate the memory effect in a simple model for glassy relaxation, a trap model with a Gaussian density of states. In this model thermal equilibrium is reached at all finite temperatures and therefore we can consider jumps from low to high temperatures in addition to the quenches usually considered in aging studies. We show that the evolution of the energy following the Kovacs-protocol can approximately be expressed as a difference of two monotonously decaying functions and thus show the existence of a so-called Kovacs hump whenever these functions are not single exponentials. It is well established that the Kovacs effect also occurs in the linear response regime and we show that mos…

2018

A comparation of two sorting strategies. While the shallow channel guides the droplets more precisely to the sorting point, the confined droplets are more vulnerable to coalescence and break-up. The deep channel lowers the positioning precision, however, the droplets are more stable.

Family Carers’ Expectations and Strategies in Shaping Live-in Migrant Carer Arrangements: A Comparison Between Germany and the Netherlands

2021

Item does not contain fulltext This chapter analyzes different old-age care regimes with regard to the expectations family carers have vis-á-vis live-in migrant carer arrangements and the strategies they develop to shape them. It compares data from interviews with family carers in Germany and the Netherlands. While Germany’s old-age care regime places a high responsibility and financial burden on the family, the Netherlands provides a broad range of publicly funded health and social care services. The analysis reveals both differences and similarities between family carers in both countries. It shows that family carers in Germany rather favor family-like arrangements, whereas family carers …

The article focuses on the automatization of loading, stowing and unloading ports operations, from the point of view of the impact of the technologies on the system of liabilities of the …

Impact of Age and Midostaurin-Dose on Response and Outcome in Acute Myeloid Leukemia with FLT3-ITD: Interim-Analyses of the AMLSG 16-10 Trial

2016

Abstract Background: Internal tandem duplications (ITD) in the receptor tyrosine kinase FLT3 occur in roughly 25% of younger adult patients (pts) with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The multi-targeted kinase inhibitor midostaurin combined with intensive chemotherapy has shown activity against AML with FLT3 mutations. However, toxicity and potential drug-drug interactions with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors such as posaconazole may necessitate dose reduction. Aims: To evaluate the impact of age and midostaurin dose-adaptation after intensive induction chemotherapy on response and outcome in AML with FLT3-ITD within the AMLSG 16-10 trial (NCT01477606). Methods: The study included adult pts (age 18-7…
