A single tube PCR assay for detecting viruses and their recombinants that cause tomato yellow leaf curl disease in Mediterranean basin

2007

Tomato yellow leaf curl disease (TYLCD) is well known in Mediterranean countries, where it has been causing severe losses in tomato crops for decades. Until recently, two viruses (with several isolates) in the genus Begomovirus, family Geminiviridae, have been associated with the epidemics: Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) and Tomato yellow leaf curl Sardinia virus (TYLCSV). However, recombinants between these, such as Tomato yellow leaf curl Malaga virus (TYLCMalV), are spreading, and new methods for detecting all viruses present in the region are needed. By considering all DNA sequences available of viruses causing TYLCD in the Mediterranean basin, a PCR/RFLP protocol was developed t…

Sysmä Community Currency: An Analysis of its Success from the Perspectives of Purposes, Stakeholders and Promotion

2019

Artikkeli on tapaustutkimus paikallisrahajärjestelmästä, jota kokeiltiin äskettäin maalaisympäristössä Sysmän kunnassa. Paikallisraha on yksi innovaatiivisista aloitteista, joita kunta on tehnyt tällä vuosituhannella torjuakseen jo 1960-luvulta alkaen käynnissä ollutta väestökatoa.

Onko urbanisaatio maaseudun turma? : kaupunkien väestönkasvun vaikutukset erityyppisen maaseudun väestökehitykseen Suomessa ajanjaksolla 1990-2015

2018

Kaupungistuminen on edennyt nopeasti Suomessakin, ja samalla maaseutu on menettänyt väestöään ja aktiviteettejaan. Miten urbanisaation eteneminen on vaikuttanut maaseudun kehitykseen?

Conservation of the positions of metazoan introns from sponges to humans

2002

Abstract Sponges (phylum Porifera) are the phylogenetic oldest Metazoa still extant. They can be considered as reference animals (Urmetazoa) for the understanding of the evolutionary processes resulting in the creation of Metazoa in general and also for the metazoan gene organization in particular. In the marine sponge Suberites domuncula , genes encoding p38 and JNK kinases contain nine and twelve introns, respectively. Eight introns in both genes share the same positions and the identical phases. One p38 intron slipped for six bases and the JNK gene has three more introns. However, the sequences of the introns are not conserved and the introns in JNK gene are generally much longer. Intron…

Is Broad the New Deep in Environmental Ethics? A Comparison of Broad Ecological Justice and Deep Ecology

2016

I argue in this article that a theory of broad ecological justice or the extended capabilities approach, an interesting approach in contemporary environmental ethics, shares many of its core ideas with deep ecology and Arne Næss’s ecosophy T. The similarities between these approaches include the ambition to address the roots of environmental problems, emphasis on recognition and the criticism of oppressive structures, and a systemic orientation. Acknowledging these similarities illustrates the contemporary value of the deep ecology movement. It also helps to develop the theory of broad ecological justice further, especially in terms of bridging the gap between movements and theoretical disc…

Économie des villes contemporaines

2009

2020

This article is dedicated to the history and meaning of the Catholic Song and Prayer Book for the faithful in Kłodzko county, the first edition of which appeared in 1878 and was edited by Wilhelm Kothe. The collection went through a total of six successive editions. It contained almost 200 various kinds of hymns with musical notations. They included above all old and indigenous church songs, which made the songbook very popular among the faithful in Kłodzko county. Many parishes even made a custom of offering it to children on the occasion of their first Holy Communion. There is no doubt that the Grafschafter Gesangbuch played a leading role in restoring the religious song in German to its …
