The Citation Factor Reconsidered: New Alternative for Tourism and Hospitality Research

2018

This note of research deals with the obsession of tourism scholars for citation impacts. Here I analyze not only the problems of tourism research but also how commercial publishers monopolized the production and the academic market through the imposition of the sense of prestige. We hold the thesis that the citation impact corresponds with a narcissist trend oriented to undermine the critical thinking. AUTOR Maximiliano E Korstanje - Doutorando. Advancing Design Science Research with Solution-based Probing

2019

We propose solution-based probing as an extension of action design research. The core idea is that researchers bring a prototype solution (probe) into one or more fields and explore to synthesize robust and generalizable design knowledge, along with knowledge of the phenomena and correlations we discover. We believe proposing solutions creates opportunities for researchers to innovate and to document the impact. In addition, solutions can be effective probes for advancing theory, in terms of design theories and in creating exploratory foundations for behavioral and causal theory. We illustrate solution-based probing with four exemplar studies in the areas governance of municipalities, polic…

Universal Restrictions in Reading: What Do French Beginning Readers (Mis)perceive?

2020

International audience; Despite the many reports that consider statistical distribution to be vitally important in visual identification tasks in children, some recent studies suggest that children do not always rely on statistical properties to help them locate syllable boundaries. Indeed, sonority-a universal phonological element-might be a reliable source for syllable segmentation. More specifically, are children sensitive to a universal phonological sonority-based markedness continuum within the syllable boundaries for segmentation (e.g., from marked, illegal intervocalic clusters, "jr," to unmarked, legal intervocalic clusters, "rj"), and how does this sensitivity progress with reading…

Implementation of a social and emotional learning programme in physical education : a teacher's action research study

2013

The importance of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) has been widely studied and its impact on the holistic development of youth is indisputable. The teaching of social and emotional skills through Physical Education (PE) is a pertinent context though it remains an under-explored domain. This study aims to address the gap by offering insights into the educational process of implementing a socio-emotional skills intervention programme in PE, encompassing socio-emotional competencies of impulse control, effective communication, empathy and behaviour management. The study was conducted using a qualitative action research case study approach. Data was collected from researcher’s journal as wel…

The Past, History, and Corporate Social Responsibility

2020

An emerging body of research recognizes the importance of the past and history for corporate social responsibility (CSR) scholarship and practice. However, the meanings that scholars and practitioners can ascribe to the past and history differ fundamentally, posing challenges to the integration of history and CSR thinking. This essay reviews diverse approaches and proposes a broad conceptualization of the relationship between the past, history, and CSR. We suggest historical CSR as an umbrella term that comprises three distinct theoretical perspectives. The “past-of-CSR” perspective is concerned with the history of CSR and business ethics as a set of concepts and practices. The “past-in-CSR…

Non-abusing mothers’ formal support needs after child sexual abuse disclosure : the case of North Cyprus

2023

This article investigates the formal support needs of mothers whose child has been sexually abused. Previous research has focused mostly on the provision of support for abused children to the relative neglect of mothers’ support needs. Here, formal support refers to resources and services from organisations, professionals and authorities, with a specific focus on social welfare services. This article is based on a thematic analysis of semi-structured, in-depth interviews with 15 non-abusing mothers in North Cyprus. Analysis of the mothers’ experiences revealed needs of support in four important domains: financial support; child day-care services and social facilities for children and adults…

The Human Right to Social Security and Its Impact on Socio-Political Action in Germany and Finland

2017

Social human rights have rarely been given attention in social work research or comparative studies on welfare states. The paper aims at filling the gap by analysing the conception of human beings inherent in human rights and in unemployment policy documents in Germany and Finland. Its focus lies on the right to social security, a central norm of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. The main question is what impact does the right to social security have on socio-political action in Germany and Finland. The results of the analysis, which was based on the objective hermeneutics, revealed a structural similarity between the conceptions of human beings in both cou…
