2013

How citizens are able to understand eco-responsible conducts and a necessary community-based action in an individual world? With the "Transition Towns MOVIDA" project, we wish to identify levers related to a most collective and sustainable consumption. The present proposal consider major terms definition and practices, which can support the bounce to socio-ecological transition. Purpose – This paper aims to explore the world of insurances as rites of adaptancy and resiliency before risk and disasters. The research on risks, both perceived and real, has become a frequent theme of academic research in the recent past. Drought-related cholera outbreaks in Africa and the implications for climate change: a narrative review.

2021

ABSTRACT Africa has historically seen several periods of prolonged and extreme droughts across the continent, causing food insecurity, exacerbating social inequity and frequent mortality. A known consequence of droughts and their associated risk factors are infectious disease outbreaks, which are worsened by malnutrition, poor access to water, sanitation and hygiene and population displacement. Cholera is a potential causative agent of such outbreaks. Africa has the highest global cholera burden, several drought-prone regions and high levels of inequity. Despite this, research on cholera and drought in Africa is lacking. Here, we review available research on drought-related cholera outbreak…

Vissuti di insegnanti e genitori al tempo della pandemia: note sulla corresponsabilità educativa scuola e famiglia

2022

In line with the very latest national and international literature on the effects of the pandemic in educational contexts, the paper presents a research into the lived experiences and points of view of some Sicilian parents and teachers. Adopting a phenomenological-hermeneutic methodology, the narrations of the participants were collected and then analysed by focusing on the mutual representations, meanings of co-responsibility and and co-constructed learning during the pandemic. Indeed, we will try to highlight how, from the voices of schools and families that have been forced to collaborate within the virtual space and the contracted pandemic time, new possible perspectives of meaning and…

Abitare il mondo. Crisi ecologica e paradigmi securitari

2019

The ecological question can be assumed as one of the discourses where the systemic mutation between the juridical-political subject of liberalism, and the subject of interest of neoliberalism have matured. Starting with the transformations of the security sphere, and the shift of Sovereign/Governmentality nexus, I analyze human security and human resilience paradigms, highlighting the contiguity between ecological and political lexicon. I deal with concepts of risk, agency, and scarcity and, in conclusion, I propose a reading of Arendt’s dimension of dwelling. The concept of World as a dwelling place opens a space, both on the political and the practical side, which could face the complexit…

Individual Profiles of Psychological Capital in a Spanish Sample

2019

Psychological Capital (PsyCap) consists of hope, self-efficacy, resilience and optimism. It is usually assumed that individuals score similarly across these four components, however, there have been suggestions in the literature that in some cases, people can score high on some dimensions and low on others, and that it is necessary to explore the matter further (Dawkins, 2014). Hence, the main objective of this article is to explore if the relationship between the dimensions of PsyCap results in individual profiles; to see which sociodemographic characteristics they have, and how the profiles relate to job satisfaction and performance. The sample consists of 1752 employees from different co…

The influence of social support on the wellbeing of immigrants residing in Italy: Sources and functions as predictive factors for life satisfaction l…

2023

Moving from one country to another involves not only separation from the country of origin, but also the tiring process of integration into a new physical, institutional, and sociocultural context, which may expose migrants to acculturation stress. The loss of former support networks, or at the very least their transformation, presents immigrants with the need to rebuild their social support systems in the host country, involving an active search for support. Therefore, the aim of study is to analyze the structure of informal social support and its capacity to predict immigrants’ sense of community, resilience, and satisfaction with life. The results confirm that social support predicts sat…

THE ROLE OF DIVERSITY AND DIVERSIFICATION FOR RESILIENT AGRICULTURAL SYSTEMS

2014

Biodiversity is a unique and precious heritage: generic but also cultural, social and economic. Its drastic curtailment, however, puts at risk the survival of local farming systems, and this is even more so in fragile socio-economic contexts where it risks translating into conditions of food insecurity and poverty. From the elementary level of the gene, rising in complexity up to the ecosystem, it is therefore a central element in defining first the resistance and then the resilience of the system, and by the first term meaning the degree of resistance to a disruption that distances it from the initial state of equilibrium and by the second the capacity of a system to return to guaranteeing…
