Soknopaiou Nesos project 2019. Il survey 3D e il survey ceramologico
2020
In 2019, in the framework of the Soknopaiou Nesos Project (University of the Salento, Lecce, Italy), two research teams began a multidisciplinary survey atDime es-Seba. One team conducted a 3D survey with a view to generating a digital model of the entire site using Camera Scanner-based techniques while the other undertook a survey in order to obtain knowledge of the spatial and chronological development of the settlement. The survey aims to create a Topographical Atlas which will support the acquisition of evidence for addressing specific archaeological problems concerning the city. The project will also contribute to the protection, conservation and monitoring of the site.
Dallo scavo archeologico alla riprogettazione virtuale di un edificio: La chiesa a doppia abside del casale di Quattro Macine, Giuggianello (Lecce)
2003
The increasingly widespread use of computational technologies in the archaeological field it has opened up new possibilities of research thanks to the passage of information technology from simple support for "management and documentation" of data as a tool for the "production and analysis" of data themselves. Nowadays, having new software from computer-aided architectural design (Computer Aided Design) it is possible for the archaeologist to use the computer to realize a virtual reconstruction intended as a tool of archaeological analysis of an artifact building, retracing all the individual steps of the activity constructive up to the original architectural project. To proceed in this wor…
As part of the activities of the Archaeological Mission in Hierapolis of Phrygia (MAIER), a line of research has been developed aimed at the virtual restoration and three-dimensional reconstruction of some buildings in the city that have been the sub…

Indagini multidisciplinari e ricostruzione virtuale: il caso di studio del Teatro Nord di Hierapolis di Frigia (Turchia)
2018
The contribution concerns the multidisciplinary research conducted on the North Theatre of Hierapolis in Phrygia (south-western Turkey), built in the 2nd cent. AD and collapsed because of an earthquake in the third quarter of the 4th cent. AD. A systematic analysis and topographical survey of the remains of the Theatre were performed, and plan of the building was integrated into the digital archaeological map of the city. These data were combined with those from the geological study of the site (characterized by landslides) and from the geophysical prospecting (magnetometry and GPR) carried out in the area of the scaena and in the space between the Theatre and the North Agora. The integrati…
Mazzarino (CL), contrada Minnelli (sito 41)
2016
The contribution illustrates the site of Contrada Minnelli, in the territory of Mazzarino, which has returned a settlement intended for handicraft production, frequented between the 5th and 6th centuries AD, probably to be identified with the site of Macharina mentioned by the sources. Particular attention is paid to the artifacts of African production found (amphoras, lamps, fragments of sigillata).
Il contributo dell’Archeologia Virtuale per lo studio dell’architettura nell’area del Santuario di Apollo: la simulazione dello spazio e della percez…
2017
Reconstructive studies are not just about producing reconstructions of buildings but also represent a fully-fledged method of research in their own right, using the inter- and multidisciplinary techniques associated with Virtual Reality as a means of producing information. Particularly significant in this regard are applications designed to reconstruct the visual perception of space. In Hierapolis these analyses were performed in the area of the Sanctuary of Apollo, the only place in the city that lends itself to this type of study in that it consists of a large and clearly marked space that has been thoroughly investigated.
Pittura antica e restauro virtuale
2020
This contribution presents the preliminary work, carried out over the past few months, concerning the reconstructive study of the paintings and mosaics of the Centennial House ", Insula IX-8, in Pompeii. In particular, the work focused on the decorated surfaces of 11 rooms located along the western part of the house, between the large central peristyle and the centenary alley. The different state of conservation of the paintings and mosaics made it necessary to use two different methods of digital intervention: the "virtual restoration" and the "virtual reconstruction". Both aim to reconstruct the initial condition of the appearance of the paintings at the time of their creation and use the…

ANFORE E CERAMICHE COMUNI E DA FUOCO DA THERMAE HIMERAEAE (SICILIA) E DAL SUO HINTERLAND
2014
This report, part of a wider project involving the ancient landscapes of Himera and Thermae, presents the archaeological and archaeometric results on Late Roman amphorae and coarse/cooking wares from Termini Imerese. The aim is also to illustrate the distribution of the same types of Roman pottery in the hinterland of Thermae, where the Dept. of Cultural Heritage of Palermo University has carried out intensive surveys (from 1982, published from 1988 until 2009). A good documentation of African amphorae, coarse/cooking wares, produced both in Byzacena and Zeugitana, and also local amphorae and coarse/cooking wares and Pantellerian ware, have been found both in Thermae and in the hinterland, …
