Effect of leaf removal and ripening stage on the content of quercetin glycosides in Sangiovese grapes

Quercetin haze has been observed over the last few years in some aged Sangiovese wines. This problem could be due to an excess of the quercetin in the wine. Leaf removal increases the exposition of clusters to sunlight, which may enhance flavonol synthesis in the grapes. In this study, we evaluated the dynamics related to extractable flavonols in grapes grown in three usually defoliated Vitis vinifera (L.) cv. Sangiovese vineyards, whose wines showed quercetin precipitates. Effect of Endomycorrhizal Infection on Root System Development in the Apple Rootstock (Malus domestica Borkh.) M26

A mycorrhizal fungus (Glomus intraradices) is able to promote shoot growth of the apple rootstock M26. We have shown that the root system is also modified by the presence of the endophyte. Mycorrhiza formation reduced the shoot to root ratio and increased the specific root length. We show that in apple modifications in root architecture are mainly due to a reduction in the elongation of the different root orders.

Eggplants have fruits with different sizes, shapes and colours, according to the cultivar. Skin colour is due to anthocyanins, pigments located in the cell vacuole of fruit skin that belong to phenolic flavonoids, a powerful antioxidants group. Environmental conditions and growing techniques may influence fruits characteristics and their content of phenolic compounds. Fight against Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) implies the use of CTV-resistant rootstocks, such as citranges [C. Sinensis (L.) Osb. × P. Trifoliata (L.) Raf.]. The 'C35' represents a promising tolerant to CTV genotype.
