How to manage the impact of gene flow on oilseed rape grain quality? Simulation case studies of three contrasted landscapes

2012

Abstract Grain admixture due to gene flow of oilseed rape (OSR) could be economically damaging. Different strategies are currently used or proposed to manage grain quality, ranging from homogenisation at the silo level to tactical decision rules at the field level. The relevance of these general strategies was appraised in the case of genetically modified (GM) OSR in three contrasted regions in Europe: Beauce Blesoise (France), Schleswig-Flensburg (Germany), and Fife (UK). Field patterns, crop allocation and agricultural practices were derived from existing datasets and complementary field surveys. Then a gene flow simulator was used to assess how the local contexts influenced the grain adm…

Intervento

2020

The article intends to give an account of the terms of the debate regarding the relationship between the CAP and competition, highlighting the tensions between the Commission and Parliament and the repercussions in legislative choices in a dimension that still seems unresolved today. The oscillations of the pendulum between PAC and Antitrust in the context of the regulation of the agri-food system seem to reappear also in the regulation of unfair commercial practices. It does not seem easy to propose a reading that is not necessarily dichotomous, which would like to make a dimension of commonality between the discipline of competition and the CAP prevail, although an awareness, even among j…

Glosa do wyroku Naczelnego Sądu Administracyjnego z dnia 25 maja 2022 r., sygn. akt III OSK 2273/21

2023

Facilitators of and Barriers to Sustainable Development in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises: A Descriptive Exploratory Study in Romania

2021

In the context of growing concerns regarding the deterioration of the environment and the increase in social inequalities, the concept of sustainability emerged as a response of companies, in order to contribute to community goodwill. The drivers and obstacles for the businesses engaging in sustainable policies have been explored at large by scientific literature. However, research gaps were observed, namely regarding SMEs, that tend to have a less formal and more fragmented approach to sustainability. The goal of our study is to determine the main barriers and facilitators for sustainability that Romanian SMEs face, and the connections between them and with the firms’ characteristics. Our …

Defining collaboration rules in mechatronic Industry

2011

Small and medium companies in order to survive in the global market should promote the creation of partnerships and business networking. Thanks to business networks, in fact, they can reach efficiencies, improve their knowledge and increase their degree of internationalization. The industrial district is a very common type of business network model, especially in Italy. Belonging to an industrial district increases companies inclination to sign inter-firm collaboration contracts such as alliances, outsourcing and joint ventures. However, some Italian districts, mostly those recently constituted and localized in the south of Italy, such as the Sicilian Mechatronic District (SMD), lacks of ac…

Joining primal/dual subdivision surfaces

2012

International audience; In this article we study the problem of constructing an intermediate surface between two other surfaces defined by different iterative construction processes. This problem is formalised with Boundary Controlled Iterated Function System model. The formalism allows us to distinguish between subdivision of the topology and subdivision of the mesh. Although our method can be applied to surfaces with quadrangular topology subdivision, it can be used with any mesh subdivision (primal scheme, dual scheme or other.) Conditions that guarantee continuity of the intermediate surface determine the structure of subdivision matrices. Depending on the nature of the initial surfaces…

Holes in the Dike: The Global Savings Glut, U.S. House Prices and the Long Shadow of Banking Deregulation

2016

We explore empirically how capital inflows into the US and financial deregulation within the United States interacted in driving the run-up (and subsequent decline) in US housing prices over the period 1990-2010. To obtain an ex ante measure of financial liberalization, we focus on the history of interstate-banking deregulation during the 1980s, i.e. prior to the large net capital inflows into the US from China and other emerging economies. Our results suggest a long shadow of deregulation: in states that opened their banking markets to out-of-state banks earlier, house prices were more sensitive to capital inflows. We provide evidence that global imbalances were a major positive funding sh…

Agreements regarding the property relations of transnational couples and their effects under the application of the twin regulations

2021

It is a true and verifiable fact that the family institution has evolved over recent decades in Europe and throughout the world, but not uniformly or at the same time. This is because it is influenced by social and cultural connotations specific to each State. All of which are respected under EU Regulations 2016/1103 and 2016/1104. This work analyses the Twins Regulations, that gives the couples the possibility of choosing the jurisdiction (art. 7) and applicable legal system underpinning the property consequences of the marriage and registered partnerships (art. 22.1). However, we try to show you these rules absolute freedom of choice is not granted to the parties, because this freedom is …

Characterization of gas phase aggregates of bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOT) and divalent metal ions. Elimination of radical species in the deco…

2012

Structure and properties of even-electron anionic species formed by bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOT) and divalent metal ions (MII) with stoichiometry [AOTMIICl2]– have been investigated by using electrospray ionization and different mass spectrometry techniques, such as high resolution, accurate mass measurements, collision-induced dissociation (CID) multiple-stage mass spectrometry. Owing to CID, eliminations of neutrals, mainly consisting in hydrochloric acid, 2-ethyl-1-hexene and 2-ethylhexanol, and an unexpected loss of an alkyl radical have been observed. The radical anions [C4HO6SMIICl]–• so produced have been characterized by MS3 experiments. Density functional theory calculatio…
