Phenolic compounds and abscisic acid as potential markers for the floral origin of two Polish unifloral honeys
2012
The phenolic profiles of Polish honey samples from heather (Calluna vulgaris L.) and buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum L.) were determined. The phenolic components were isolated from honey samples using Amberlite-XAD-2 as a solid-phase extraction sorbent. For the determination of the composition of the honey extracts HPLC with photodiode array detector was applied. Identification and quantification of phenolics was performed by comparison of their retention times and UV spectra with those of standard solutions of pure reference substances and by using those references as external standards. From among 20 commercially available standards over 15 of them were identified as present in all analys…
The prevalence and characteristics of breakthrough cancer pain in patients receiving low doses of opioids for background pain
2021
Simple Summary The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence and characteristics of breakthrough cancer pain (BTcP) in patients receiving low doses of opioids for background pain. This prospective study showed that in this population, BTcP prevalence was 69.8%. Many patients did not achieve a sufficient level of satisfaction with BTcP medications, particularly with oral morphine. Data also suggest that better optimization of background analgesia, though apparently acceptable, may limit the number of BTcP episodes. Abstract The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence and characteristics of breakthrough cancer pain (BTcP) in patients receiving low doses of opioids for background p…
Episodic Breathlessness with and without Background Dyspnea in Advanced Cancer Patients Admitted to an Acute Supportive Care Unit
2020
Aim: To characterize episodic breathlessness (EB) in patients with advanced cancer, and to determine factors influencing its clinical appearance. Methods: A consecutive sample of advanced cancer patients admitted to an acute palliative care unit was surveyed. Continuous dyspnea and EB were measured by a numerical scale. The use of drugs used for continuous dyspnea and EB was recorded. Patients were asked about the characteristics of EB (frequency, intensity, duration and triggers). The Multidimensional dyspnea profile (MDP), the Brief dyspnea inventory (BDI), the Athens sleep scale (AIS) and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) were also administered. Results: From 439 advanced …
Microtomographic Quantification of Hydraulic Clay Mineral Displacement Effects During a CO2 Sequestration Experiment with Saline Aquifer Sandstone
2013
We combined a noninvasive tomographic imaging technique with an invasive open-system core-flooding experiment and compared the results of the pre- and postflooded states of an experimental sandstone core sample from an ongoing field trial for carbon dioxide geosequestration. For the experiment, a rock core sample of 80 mL volume was taken from the 629 m Stuttgart Formation storage domain of a saline sandstone aquifer at the CCS research pilot plant Ketzin, Germany. Supercritical carbon dioxide and synthetical brine were injected under in situ reservoir p/T-conditions at an average flow rate of 0.1 mL/min for 256 h. X-ray computed microtomographic imaging was carried out before and after the…
Role of a medication in polyurethane foam in the treatment of diabetic foot lesions
2010
Background The treatment of diabetic foot lesions need medications capable of managing wound infection and exudates that, variously combined, can influence the natural history of the pathology and therefore limb survival. A particular and economic device, is represented by honeycomb structure polyurethane foam Ligasano ©.

Extraktionschromatographische trennung der freien porphyrine auf tri-n-butylphosphat-s?ulen im pH-gradienten
1969
Abstract The method described allows the separation of the free porphyrins on a tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) column by elution with a pH gradient. The prophyrins are eluted from the column at discrete pH values (xD) according to the number of carboxyl groups in the side chains. Separation of isomers could not be observed under the conditions used. The xD values indicate the centre of the pH-interval, in which the dissociation of the carboxyl groups occurs. This finding could be confirmed by spectro-photometric measurements. By combining the method proposed with the method of separation by extraction chromatography in the TBP/IN HCl partition system and the thin-layer technique in the 2,6-lut…
Retrospective screening of pesticide metabolites in ambient air using liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry
2015
A new methodology for the retrospective screening of pesticide metabolites in ambient air was developed, using liquid chromatography coupled to Orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS), including two systematic workflows (i) post-run target screening (suspect screening) and (ii) non-target screening. An accurate-mass database was built and used for the post-run screening analysis. The database contained 240 pesticide metabolites found in different matrixes such as air, soil, water, plants, animals and humans. For non-target analysis, a "fragmentation-degradation" relationship strategy was selected. The proposed methodology was applied to 31 air samples (PM10) collected in the…
Infrared biospectroscopy for a fast qualitative evaluation of sample preparation in metabolomics.
2014
Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) has been increasingly used in biomedicine to study the dynamic metabolomic responses of biological systems under different physiological or pathological conditions. To obtain an integrated snapshot of the system, metabolomic methods in biomedicine typically analyze biofluids (e.g. plasma) that require clean-up before being injected into LC-MS systems. However, high resolution LC-MS is costly in terms of resources required for sample and data analysis and care must be taken to prevent chemical (e.g. ion suppression) or statistical artifacts. Because of that, the effect of sample preparation on the metabolomic profile during metabolomic method d…
Botanical Origin Authentication of Polish Phacelia Honey Using the Combination of Volatile Fraction Profiling by HS-SPME and Lipophilic Fraction Prof…
2019
Eleven samples of Polish Phacelia tanacetifolia Benth., three Brassica napus and one Salix spp. honeys were characterized by melissopalynology and analysis of the compositions of their volatile fractions. Headspace solid-phase microextraction coupled with gas chromatography mass spectrometry (HS-SPME/GC–MS) using PDMS/CAR/DVB fiber was used for the isolation of low-molecular weight compounds which create a volatile fraction. To differentiate and indicate the most representative unifloral samples, chemometric techniques such as principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical-tree clustering (HTC) were applied to the dataset of the chromatographic fingerprints. Based on the obtained resul…
