Background The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of oral lesions in the floor of the mouth from representative oral pathology centres in Latin America. Material and Methods This study was conducted on biopsies obtained from January of 1978 to December of 2018 at nine Latin America oral and maxillofacial pathology centres. Gender, age and histopathological diagnosis were evaluated. Data were analysed using descriptive methods. Chi-square test was used for pairwise comparisons. A 72-year-old man with the third recurrence of a low-grade liposarcoma of the right lower leg came to our attention seeking limb-salvage surgery. The tumour was removed en bloc with all the superficial posterior compartment of the leg. Appropriate foot flexion was restored by means of a free-functional rectus femoris musculocutaneous flap harvested from the ipsilateral thigh. The patient was kept on a postoperative splint for 6 weeks. Three months after the operation, clinical and elecromyographic signs of reinnervation were observed. Kaposi sarcoma (KS) risk is affected by perturbed immunity. Herein, we compared plasma from 15 human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)–negative classic KS cases to plasma from 29 matched controls, using a multiplex panel of immunity markers. Of 70 markers, CXCL10 (IP-10), sIL-1RII, sIL-2RA, and CCL3 (MIP-1A) were strongly and significantly associated with KS, after adjustment for age and smoking status. These and previous observations are consistent with a tumor-promoting role for these cytokines, particularly CXCL10, but the small sample size and case-control design preclude firm conclusions on KS risk or pathogenesis. e22517 Background: Since the first steps of its clinical development, trabectedin was noticed to be extremely active against myxoid liposarcoma (MLS), whose pathogenesis seems to be associated to the presence of the t(12;16)(q13;p11) translocation, resulting in the expression of FUS-DDIT3 fusion genes.
