Slender columns and continuous welded rails subjected to compressive stress are common in many civil structures. The rapid in-situ measurement of this stress may be of interest to prevent structural anomalies such as buckling. In this article, the authors describe the coupling mechanism between highly nonlinear solitary waves (HNSWs) propagating along an L-shaped granular system and a beam in contact with the granular medium. The paper presents a thermodynamically consistent formulation for nonlocal damage models. Nonlocal models have been recognized as a theoretically clean and computationally efficient approach to overcome the shortcomings arising in continuum media with softening. Several enriched continuum mechanics theories have been proposed by the scientific community in order to develop models capable of describing microstructural effects. The aim of the present paper is to revisit and compare two of these models, whose common denominator is the use of fractional calculus operators. The former was proposed to investigate damage in materials exhibiting a fractal-like microstructure. It makes use of the local fractional derivative, which turns out to be a powerful tool to describe irregular patterns such as strain localization in heterogeneous materials. Integration of finite displacement interface element in reference and current configurations

In the present paper the non-linear behaviour of a solid body with embedded cohesive interfaces is examined in a finite displacements context. The principal target is the formulation of a two dimensional interface finite element which is referred to a local reference frame, defined by normal and tangential unit vectors to the interface middle surface. In the present paper some experimental analyses of Dacron© 360 woven aimed to characterize its constitutive behavior are presented. This woven, widely adopted in sail manufacturing, is obtained by weaving polyethylene terephthalate (PET) yarn and it shows some peculiar features due to the manufacturing process. The experimental tests, in terms of tensile tests and cyclic tests, clearly show the orthotropy features of the material, its high strength and deformability. Finally, the examination with optical microscope of the tested specimens allows to evidence how the warp and weft yarns interact.

In this paper a first experimental study on Dacron© 360 woven constitutive behavior is presented. This woven is widely adopted in sail manufacturing, it is obtained by weaving polyethylene terephthalate (PET) yarn and it shows some peculiar features due to its own manufacturing process. The experimental tests, in terms of tensile tests and cyclic tests, clearly show the orthotropy features of the material, its high strength and deformability. The examination with optical microscope of the tested specimen allows to evidence the interaction between warp and weft yarns. The obtained results represent a first step for the definition of a correct computational approach to such materials.
Damage identification by a modified Ant Colony Optimization for not well spaced frequency systems

Recently, it has been shown , that a damage detection strategy based on a proper functional calculated on the analytical signal of the structural dynamical response, consents to identify very low damage level.
